If there were any Oscars for showing absolute shamelessness in Indian politics, only two politicians can make a serious claim on it. They’re none other than the CM of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, and the CM of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee.
During their rule, the states in question have turned from bad to worse, almost on the verge of collapsing to terrorism and corruption. However, instead of fixing the problems these two folks are expert at passing the buck on others in a way that makes even the likes of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin look amateurs.
In her latest salvo aimed at BJP, Mamata Banerjee has decided to insult the electoral mandate BJP won in Tripura. In her statement issued to the press, Mamata Banerjee derided the Tripura victory, saying there is nothing to cheer about in a ‘municipal election victory.’
For her kind information, it is after more than three decades that a non-Communist government has managed to win power in Tripura, after the CPI [M] had ascended to power. Also, it is quite ironical that Mamata Banerjee is deriding the BJP victory in Tripura, when it is hidden from none that they bit the dust in the Tripura elections royally.
Compared to BJP’s meteoric jump to a whopping 36 seats on their own, apart from the 8 coalition seats for their partner, Indigenous People’s Front for Tripura, Trinamool Congress could not even save their deposits on the seats contested. Even irony, if in person, would die laughing on this supposed barb.
Besides, it is more tragic than hilarious that Mamata Banerjee is downplaying the importance of a legislative assembly election victory to that of a municipal election one, when she can’t tolerate the might of the opposition even in her own state’s municipal, as well as panchayat elections. It would take no genius to ascertain who is behind the dastardly assaults on BJP candidates when they went to file nominations for the local municipal polls in West Bengal.
The Trinamool Congress workers did not even spare women, making horrifying attempts to disrobe some of the women candidates in public. So if Mamata tried to compare BJP’s victory in Tripura with municipal elections, we can’t help but laugh at the intellectual bankruptcy she resorts to, just to stay in power.
At such a juncture, one needed an effective retort to such an absurd take on the BJP victory and who better than the incumbent CM of Tripura, Shri Biplab Deb? Currently in prominence, for his rather naïve takes on sensitive issues, Biplab Deb has been chiefly instrumental along with Tripura in-charge for the elections, Sunil Deodhar, in the dramatic turnaround in BJP’s fortunes since 2016, especially in the North-East, apart from the dark horse, Himanta Biswa Sarma from Assam.
This time though, Biplab Deb had an effective and rather hilarious comeback for Mamata Bannerjee. To quote him, ‘Mamata didi should go to a temple and then get her brain examined at a hospital.’ Biplab Deb even suggested that Mamata is ‘nervous and jealous’ of BJP’s recent success. No doubt she would be, because BJP is slowly but steadily maintaining its firm grip in their new found home ground of eastern India, especially the Northeast states.
Given that except Mizoram, almost all the Northeast states are either directly ruled or administered in coalition with BJP, their eyes are now on West Bengal which is currently battered, bruised and oppressed by illegal Bangladeshi immigrants with the royal patronage of CM Mamata Banerjee.
With this, Biplab Deb has certainly made up for his naïve goof-up and has now left Mamata Banerjee restless. She is yet to reply on this issue, and why not? You don’t expect such witty retorts for your barbs all the time, do you?
