Understanding why Congress Suspended Mani Shankar Aiyar. Modi cannot be the reason

When PM Modi criticised Congress for trying to undermine the role of Ambedkaar, Mani Shankar Aiyar responded with “Mujhko lagta hai ki ye aadmi bahut neech kisam ka aadmi hai, isme koi sabhyata nahi hai, or aise mauke par is kisam ki gandi rajniti karne ki kya avashyakta hai?”

It is true that except for the Gandhi-Nehru family Congress has undermined each and every leader of yesteryear. This was evident from the way they did not even allow the mortal remains of PV Narasimha Rao at the party headquarters. His funeral ceremony was not allowed to take place in Delhi, and this is an Ex-PM we are talking about. As far as Ambedkar is concerned, the schism between him and Nehru is well known.

If Mani Shankar Aiyar was confident that Modi lied about Congress’s treatment of Ambedkar, as a learned man (at least he thinks so) he should have rebutted Modi’s argument with facts. When one doesn’t have any facts to support his masters, what would he do? He stoops to his usual level and starts behaving in his natural manner. When the intellectual façade was removed, the crude but original version of Mani Shankar was exposed.

Expectedly, Rahul Gandhi criticized Mani Shankar’s comments and nudged him to apologize. Even then, Mani Shankar didn’t relent but questioned Modi’s criticism of Rahul Gandhi. Later he issued a weak clarification saying that Hindi is not his mother tongue and he may not have known what his words actually meant. The irony in his statement can be ascertained from the fact that India’s first consulate general to Pakistan, an Urdu speaking country is now trying to hide behind the curtain of language.

https://twitter.com/ashoswai/status/938741302614806530

Mani Shankar has already said that he was only a freelance Congressi. Whether he was suspended or not, would not affect the party, as he was never a mass leader but a crony politician who enjoyed political clout without any responsibilities.

So, does it matter if he is suspended or not? Or is Mani Shankar Aiyar the only one in Congress to have abused PM Modi? The abuse-Modi-game was in fact started by Sonia Gandhi when she called him “Maut ka Saudagar” blaming him for 2002 riots, conveniently forgetting the Sikh genocide that happened under the able guardianship of her late husband. Rahul Gandhi the one currently treading the high moral road was the one to accuse the Prime Minister of Khoon Ki Dalali. Both Mother and Son are safe and sound in the party. Latter is, in fact, about to succeed the former as the President of the Party.

If Rahul Gandhi really feels that it is not the culture of Congress to use expletives against political opponents, should he not ask his mother to apologize to Narendra Modi, for lowering the level of public discourse, probably for the first time in modern Indian Politics? Shouldn’t he resign himself? Well, he simply cannot do that. The real reason why Mani Shankar was thrown out from the paryt was that he was expendable. Also, he was a burden and an excellent goat to sacrifice on the altar of morality in politics. So, Mani Shankar was thrown out.

However, politically speaking suspending Mani Shankar from Congress would do some harm to the party. Mani Shankar is the type of a person who likes to throw mud on everyone. One reason for keeping him in Congress fold could be to avoid becoming his target. We all know what Kapil Mishra is doing to Aam Aadmi Party. Now, as Mani is out of the party, he is free to talk nonsense about even the Congress party. Even if he continues targeting Modi, that would affect only Congress, irrespective of whether Mani is in Congress or not.

If you think Rahul Gandhi was the first one to throw out Mani Shankar Aiyar, you are wrong. It was Amar Singh. While Rahul Gandhi threw Mani Shankar Aiyar out of Congress party for continuously lowering the image of the party (as if it is not at the nadir already), Amar Singh threw him out of a party hosted by Satish Gujral in honour of HK Dua.

Drunken Mani Shankar Aiyar went to Amar Singh and blamed him for stopping Sonia Gandhi from becoming the Prime Minister. Everyone knows Amar Singh wasn’t so powerful but the liquor inside Mani was powerful enough to give him this idea. The argument escalated and after some time, Mani remarked about Mulayam Singh “We belong to the Oxford and Cambridge set… your leader can”t even articulate himself in English… Oh that bloody Mulayam — he looks just like me. It could be because my father visited UP at some point. Why don’t you check with Mulayam’s mother”. Well, it was the last straw and Amar Singh jostled Mani and threw him out of the party.

Whether high on liquor or not, Mani’s talks and actions are always stuffs of pure degeneration. He even suggested to a Pakistani channel that they should help the congress party to get rid of Narendra Modi, so that discussions between India and Pakistan can resume. Here is the man who canvasses in an enemy country to remove a democratically elected Prime Minister. And, that is all his Oxford education could teach him about Democracy.

The conspiracy theorist in me says that Mani could be the mole of BJP in Congress to issue provoking statements that eventually profit BJP? That could be the fear behind his suspension? Depends on who advised Rahul Gandhi yesterday. As explained earlier, whether he is in the party or not, he would definitely be hurting Congress irrespective of his membership status.
