Kejriwal, Media, Intellectuals – Will you cry for Pankaj Narang too?

This article was taken down. The popular perception is that we cowered under pressure. Lesser known (but well-funded) leftist blogs are accusing us of communalizing the death of Dr. Pankaj Narang who was mercilessly beaten to death in front of his kin.

So why did we take the article down?

There were two reasons behind it:

  1. The statement of Monika Bharadwaj, Additional DCP (West) wherein she mentioned that 9 people have been arrested for the murder of Dr. Pankaj Narang, out of which 5 are Hindu. This was completely in contrast with the Zee News article on which our report was based.

Out of 9 accused person 5 r Hindu. At the moment of first scuffle, out of 2, 1 was Hindu. The Muslim accused r residents of UP ,not Bangladesh

— Monika Bhardwaj (@manabhardwaj) March 25, 2016

  1. The statement of one Tushar Narang, who claims to be a family member of Dr. Pankaj Narang. In his Facebook message, he appealed to ‘The Frustrated Indian’ to refrain from using a death in his family as a “political agenda and pit two, already volatile communities against each other”.

We respected the words of the officer and took a humanitarian stand on the Family Member’s statement and took the article down.

So why are we putting the article up again?

  1. The official statement of Delhi Police is out. Unlike the Additional DCP, the Delhi Police has refrained from providing the religion breakup of the assaulters. Also the number of arrested in both the versions are different.

'In the case of murder of Dr. Pankaj Narang of Vikaspuri, 5 accused have been arrested. Police teams on the job to arrest other accused.'

— Delhi Police (@DelhiPolice) March 26, 2016

  1. The Family of Dr. Pankaj Narang has all our sympathies and they must understand that our stand is for them and for countless other families. We are not communalizing this gruesome incident. We are neither Political parties nor media outlets. Like them, we are regular people.

In another incident Rahul Raj, Co-Founder – opindia.com was painted as the agent of chaos on twitter. He tweeted about the VikaspuriLynching episode based on a media report which turned out to be a hoax. Like a sensible social media person, he deleted the tweet and posted another one with necessary clarifications. But by then, the snapshots of his tweets were already trending and were retweeted by left wing handles.

Now that we are done with necessary disclaimers, let me pour out what is boiling inside me.

The left cartel on Twitter that doesn’t wait for a second to communalize an issue is accusing us of polarizing Delhi. How convenient is that? Not very long back, a burglary in a Delhi Church was sold on Social Media as Church Vandalized by fringe Hindu Groups. Did they wait for Police statements? NO. The suicide of Rohith Vemula was converted into “Dalit Scholar commits suicide” story by the same cartel. DadriLynching, the reasons behind which still remain largely unknown, was blown out of proportions and converted into a full-fledged war between two communities. And guess who were behind it? The same cartel. They went on communalizing every trivial issue and now they want to scare those who have the power and nerve to speak against them.

Here is the original draft of the article. I leave it to the wisdom of the audience to decide. Are we being insincere? Are we being insensitive? Are we flaring up communal tensions?

*******

Imagine a happy family. An upper middle class family that comprises of loving parents and merry kids. A family that believes in celebrating the little pleasures that life offers. A family that cheers for India in cricket matches. A family that rejoices the victory of its country. A family that extends the glee of its country’s triumph by playing a family match in the small balcony of a Delhi Society. Imagine a horde of goons, hardened by environs of perpetual bitterness and permanent abhorrence. Imagine the goons ripping open the gates of the happy family, dragging the master of the home, the happy husband, the doting father to the ground and cracking his skull open in front of his whole family. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL? WOULD YOU BE APPALLED TOO? I AM. I UNQUESTIONABLY AM.

Pankaj Narang was killed. Pankaj Narang was dragged out of his home and killed. Pankaj Narang was dragged out of his home and killed in front of his family. Pankaj Narang was dragged out of his home and killed because he dared to question some hooligans for their coarse conduct.

A little after midnight, Pankaj Narang, a dentist by profession, was playing cricket in his home with his son and nephew, celebrating India’s one-run victory over Bangladesh in the World Twenty20 tournament. The ball bounced out on to the road and the dentist’s eight-year-old son ran out to retrieve it. Just then, the police said, Naseer and one of the minors arrested were speeding past on a motorbike, which grazed the child. Dr Narang flagged them down and a heated argument followed. Naseer then drove off, the police said, only to return about 10 minutes later with 10 people and they attacked Dr Narang. Witnesses said people who had gathered attempted to intervene, but they were thrashed too. Pankaj Narang died on the way to hospital.

Source: NDTV

Let us carefully observe the names of the assailants who killed Pankaj Narang. A Zee News report names them as Gopal Singh, Naseer Khan, Aamir Khan and a lady named Mayassar,” All the attackers are said to be from the adjoining Vikaspuri Slums. Most of the names remain concealed, but the pattern is for everyone to see.

Does anyone remember the Dadri Lynching?
Do you remember how many media bytes did this single episode consume?
Do you remember how every politician of India flocked to Dadri to express their condolences for Akhlaq?
Do you remember how the Dadri Case started the debate of intolerance in India?
Delhi CM was the most agitated amongst the agitated ones. In his profound audio communiqué to the Nation Arvind Kejriwal urged the people of India to be calm and he did that by narrating the entire Dadri incident.

His exact words were:
“Few days back some people killed a MUSLIM man in Dadri. From the same village, Police arrested some HINDU boys for his murder. Who benefitted from all this? Neither the Hindus nor the Muslims. Only some politicians and political parties benefited from it. Hindus and Muslims were living in this village from last 70 years in an atmosphere of peace and harmony. Even kids never scuffled. And all of a sudden, everything went for a complete toss in one night. Some political parties disturb communal harmony to polarize people and gullible youth fall prey to it. And INSTIGATING RIOTS IS FAIRLY SIMPLE. THEY SLAUGHTER A COW TO INFURIATE THE HINDUS, AND SLAUGHTER A PIG TO INFURIATE THE MUSLIMS. There is just one force that can change the nation and the force is AAM AADMI. GIVE THE KEYS INTO THE HANDS OF AAM AADMI.”

Will Arvind Kejriwal exhibit the same earnestness in the Pankaj Narang case too? No. Because Hindus are a shaky vote base as against the solid vote base of Muslims. The fact that assailants come from slums makes their position even more strong, after all slum dwellers contributed a lot in the historic win of Arvind Kejriwal.

The media works on a well-established narrative where Majority is always the assailant and minority is always the victim. Media encashes the Victimization Complex in the Minority Community by routine demonization of the Majority. The media will probably crawl under a rock and remain there till Internet Hindus raise cries of “Justice for Pankaj Narang” on the social media, get tired and give up. No questions of intolerance will be asked. Shah Rukhs and Aamirs won’t bat an eyelid. Ashok Vajpayee will work on his next poetry collection. Five star Activists will remain confined in their cubbyholes. In a nutshell, no one will discuss Pankaj Narang. And I don’t expect anything from them.

As a Hindu, I feel so vulnerable, defenceless, timid and voiceless in this great nation of ours!
