A 23-year-old woman from the capital city of Lucknow accused her neighbor and his mother of allegedly pressuring her to convert her religion and marry against her will, said the police.
The accused have been identified as Furkan and his mother Rizwana, both hailing from the Chinhat police station area of Lucknow.
According to the victim, Furkan had been trying to lure her into a relationship and was repeatedly forcing her to embrace Islam and marry him.
The complainant said that when she refused, saying she would only marry with her family’s consent and follow her Hindu faith, Furkan allegedly became aggressive and began threatening her.
The situation escalated on October 25, around 6:30 p.m., when Furkan and his mother reportedly stormed into the young woman’s house and created chaos.
The victim claims both of them brutally assaulted her, her father, and her brother, additionally when her mother tried to intervene, she too was beaten.
The family alleges that the attackers fled the scene after issuing death threats. Following this, the victim provided the police with audio recordings of Furkan’s threats, which she claims prove his intent.
The woman further revealed that Furkan had previously gone to her office several times, where he hurled abuses, assaulted her, and used caste-based slurs to intimidate her.
She also said, “He threatened that if I refused to marry him, he would disfigure my face.”
Confirming the incident, Chinhat Station House Officer (SHO) Dinesh Chandra Mishra stated, “A case has been registered based on the woman’s complaint, and an investigation has begun. A special team has been formed to collect evidence and trace the accused.”
Meanwhile, the victim and her family remain in fear, urging the police to arrest the accused as soon as possible.
This case has once again raised serious concerns about coercion, intimidation, and the misuse of faith in personal relationships — highlighting the urgent need for swift justice and stronger protection for victims of such crimes.
