Maa Kali’s Desecration Exposes the Dark Face of Mamata’s “Appeasement Raj” in West Bengal

Maa Kali’s Desecration Exposes the Dark Face of Mamata’s “Appeasement Raj” in West Bengal
Share on FacebookShare on X

When the head of Maa Kali’s idol is severed in the land once known for her worship, silence from the rulers becomes more deafening than the crime itself. What unfolded in West Bengal’s Kakdwip during Kali Puja has shaken the conscience of every Hindu a desecrated idol, a police van carrying away the remains of the deity, and a government accused of siding with the offenders instead of the devotees. The incident, and the state’s reaction to it, reveal not just religious intolerance but the collapse of law and order under Mamata Banerjee’s appeasement-driven regime.

Bengal’s Sacred Icon Targeted During Kali Puja

West Bengal witnessed a shocking desecration during the holy festival of Diwali and Kali Puja when an idol of Maa Kali was found beheaded at Uttar Chandanpur village under the Suryanagar Gram Panchayat in Kakdwip Assembly, South 24 Parganas. The attack, which took place inside a local Kali Puja pandal, was not an isolated act of vandalism but part of a disturbing pattern that has emerged across the state in recent years.

According to reports, the attackers identified by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari as “Jihadis”fled after cutting off the head of the idol. The act, carried out on one of Bengal’s most sacred nights, has outraged devotees and triggered widespread protests in the area. However, instead of taking swift action, the local administration allegedly tried to suppress the incident. Villagers claimed that police officers initially locked the temple doors to prevent the spread of information and photographs of the desecration.

It was only after the villagers united in protest that the doors were reopened and evidence of the desecrated idol was made public. The disturbing visuals, shared by Adhikari on social media, show the headless idol of Maa Kali lying in the pandal a haunting symbol of the state’s growing religious intolerance.

Police Action Sparks Outrage: Idol Taken Away in Prison Van

The situation worsened the following morning when the police, instead of protecting the sanctity of the temple, took away the headless idol in a prison van. Videos posted online by Adhikari show a large police convoy escorting the idol away as local Hindus shouted slogans in protest.

The Leader of Opposition alleged that the administration’s move was not for security but for silencing outrage. “When locals protested over the desecration, the police took away the idol to hide evidence. Superintendent Koteshwar Rao fled with the broken idol in a prison van, guarded by hundreds of police personnel,” Adhikari claimed.

The act of removing the deity in such a manner has deeply hurt Hindu sentiments. For many, it symbolized how the state machinery, instead of defending the faith of millions, has turned its back on Bengal’s cultural roots. Adhikari sharply condemned the incident, saying, “This is not Bengal anymore this is West Bangladesh in the making.”

Multiple Attacks During Diwali: Pattern of Intolerance

The Kakdwip incident was not an isolated one. During Diwali and Kali Puja celebrations, similar attacks and police excesses were reported from several parts of West Bengal. In the Shalbari-1 area under Tufanganj Assembly constituency in Cooch Behar, another group of “jihadi” miscreants stormed a temple during Kali Puja rituals and physically assaulted members of the puja committee.

Adhikari also highlighted another shocking case from the Railghumti area of Ward No. 9 in Cooch Behar, where he alleged that the district’s Superintendent of Police, Dyutiman Bhattacharya, assaulted minor children and even a woman for merely bursting firecrackers. A third incident took place in Uluberia North, where police allegedly entered a Kali Puja pandal and lathi-charged youths based on what BJP leaders called a “false complaint.” CCTV footage shared by Adhikari shows officers mercilessly beating devotees, an image that has since gone viral on social media.

Each of these incidents paints a grim picture of West Bengal under Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress a government accused of tolerating, even encouraging, violence against Hindu practices while remaining mute in the face of Islamist aggression.

BJP’s West Bengal unit has strongly condemned what it calls “state-sponsored suppression of Hindu festivals.” Sharing videos of the attacks, the party’s official handle posted, “POLICE MINISTER MAMATA has decided to use her police force to attack Hindus! This is her vision for West Bangladesh!”

Suvendu Adhikari reiterated his charge that Mamata Banerjee’s appeasement politics has emboldened extremist elements across the state. “Under Mamata’s rule, Hindus cannot even worship peacefully. Either jihadis attack temples, or police terrorize devotees. This is the price Bengal is paying for minority appeasement,” he said.

The repeated pattern of attacks, particularly during Hindu festivals, and the lack of accountability from the government have deepened the perception that the Trinamool regime has abandoned its responsibility to uphold secular law and order.

The Fading Flame of Faith in Bengal

Maa Kali’s desecration at Kakdwip is more than an act of vandalism; it is a mirror reflecting the deep moral and administrative decay in West Bengal. The beheading of the idol and the police’s decision to carry it away in a prison van stands as a symbol of the state’s official apathy toward Hindu sentiments.

For decades, Bengal was seen as the cultural heart of the goddess’s worship. Today, it is fast turning into a battleground where faith is suppressed, and devotion is met with brutality. The Mamata Banerjee government’s silence, its use of police force against protestors, and its failure to act against culprits expose a disturbing truth: Bengal’s governance has been sacrificed at the altar of appeasement.

When the protector of law turns against the faithful, and Maa Kali’s temple becomes a crime scene, the message is clear Bengal is losing not just its roads or rituals, but its very soul.
