Pakistan batter Haider Ali has been arrested in England following allegations of rape, prompting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to suspend him with immediate effect.
The 24-year-old cricketer, currently touring the UK with the Pakistan Shaheens, was taken into custody by Greater Manchester Police after a report was filed on Monday, August 4, alleging that a rape had occurred at a Manchester property on July 23.
In an official statement, Greater Manchester Police said, “A report of a rape was made to police on Monday, 4 August 2025. It’s alleged that the incident occurred on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, at a premises in Manchester. We have arrested a 24-year-old man. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.”
British law typically prevents the naming of suspects at this early stage in investigations. However, the PCB has identified the individual as Haider Ali and confirmed his suspension in light of the serious nature of the allegation.
“The PCB is aware of the ongoing criminal investigation involving Haider Ali and has provisionally suspended him with immediate effect,” the Board said in an official release.
“In line with our duty of care and responsibility towards our players, the PCB has ensured Haider Ali is receiving appropriate legal support to protect his rights during this process,” it said.
The PCB reiterated its respect for the legal system in the United Kingdom and emphasised its commitment to allowing the investigation to proceed without interference.
The Board also stated that further disciplinary action could be considered under its Code of Conduct, depending on the outcome of the legal process.
Haider Ali, who made his international debut in 2020, has represented Pakistan in two ODIs and 35 T20 internationals. He was in the UK as part of the Pakistan Shaheens squad—a developmental team on a 15-day tour that commenced on July 22.
The situation continues to develop as police investigations are underway.
