In his first national address since the launch of Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted the courage and heroism of India’s armed forces. On Tuesday morning, he followed up that message with a visit to Adampur Air Base in Punjab, where he interacted with air warriors and soldiers involved in the recent military operations.

Warm Reception at Adampur Air Base
PM Modi was welcomed at the airbase by Air Commodore Ajay Chaudhry. During his visit, he was briefed by senior Indian Air Force officials and met personnel involved in key missions, including Operation Sindoor. The base falls under the command of Western Air Command, one of the Indian Air Force’s most strategically significant operational units. It is led by Air Marshal Jeetendra Chaudhry, who has been coordinating the missions with the Chief of Air Staff.
The Western Air Command oversees air operations across a vast and sensitive region—from Jammu & Kashmir to Rajasthan, including Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Western Uttar Pradesh. This area includes several key forward airbases and forms the front line for any aerial engagement with Pakistan.
Backdrop of Escalating Tensions
PM Modi’s visit comes in the wake of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, following the Indian Armed Forces’ precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on the night of May 6–7 under Operation Sindoor. These strikes were carried out in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.
Pakistan launched retaliatory attacks on May 8, 9, and 10 but was countered by a powerful and well-planned counterattack by Indian troops. The four-day battle with drone and missile attacks caused huge damage to Pakistan’s military installations. On May 10, both countries agreed to suspend further military action following a DGMO-level talk between their Directors General of Military Operations. Yet India has insisted that this is not a permanent freeze, but action in the future would be determined by Pakistan’s behavior.

National Address: Salute to Armed Forces, Intelligence, and Scientists
In his address to the nation on Monday, PM Modi had strongly condemned terrorism and issued a clear warning to Pakistan. He emphasized that India has redrawn the boundaries in its fight against cross-border terror.
“Our brave soldiers have shown unparalleled valor in achieving the objectives of Operation Sindoor. Today, I dedicate their courage and heroism to them—and to every mother, sister, and daughter of our nation,” he declared.
He also extended heartfelt thanks to India’s intelligence agencies and scientific community, acknowledging their crucial role in the recent operations.
“In the past few days, we’ve seen both the capability and restraint of our nation. I salute our armed forces, intelligence services, and scientists on behalf of every Indian citizen,” he said.
