In a shocking case from Akbarpur Sadat village in Bahsuma locality of Meerut, a woman, Ravita, is accused of having killed her husband, Amit, with the assistance of her paramour, and attempted to make it look like a snakebite. The revelation has sent serious questions about values of society, relationships, and illegal wildlife trade.
As per SP Dehat Rakesh Mishra, Ravita, who had three children, was said to be in a relationship with a local tile artisan named Amardeep. He would often come to their home, and this created growing suspicion and tension within the family. When tensions grew, the two were said to have hatched a plan to kill Amit, which they planned to pass off as a snakebite.
On the day of the incident, Amit and Ravita visited the Shakumbhari Devi Temple. After returning home, Ravita reportedly called Amardeep and said, “Buy the snake today, tonight it will be done.” Amardeep allegedly brought a live snake that night. However, instead of using it, the pair strangled Amit to death and attempted to stage the scene to look like a venomous bite caused the fatality.
The case took another twist when it was revealed that a snake charmer had sold the reptile for just Rs 1,000. The authorities are now questioning the charmer, highlighting illegal wildlife trade and the ease with which harmful animals can be sourced.
Aside from the crime itself, the act is symptomatic of changing social dynamics and decay in morals. The spate of such heinous cases highlights how detachment from emotions, betrayal, and ready access to illegal means have impacted relationships and morals in contemporary society. What once was ending up in reconciliation or separation is now careening out of control into cold, premeditated violence.
As the investigation continues, Meerut police are questioning every aspect of the crime — from the affair and murder to where the snake came from. The violent nature of the crime has put the local community in shock and triggered broader debates regarding trust, changing family life, and societal expectations.
