A WhatsApp threat message warning of an attack on the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) was received on Wednesday afternoon, raising serious security concerns. The message was sent from a Pakistani phone number to the Worli Traffic Police Control Room.
Police Register Case, Investigation Underway
Following the threat, Mumbai Police swiftly registered a case and launched an investigation. Authorities are working to trace the source of the message and determine its credibility. Officials have assured that security around the CMO and other key government buildings has been heightened as a precautionary measure. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Receives Threat from Pakistani Number
On Friday, February 28, Mumbai Police received a threatening message directed towards Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The message was sent via WhatsApp from a Pakistani phone number. Mumbai Police is on high alert following the threat.
The sender, identifying himself as ‘Malik Shahbaz Humayun Raja Dev,’ sent the message to the Mumbai Traffic Police via WhatsApp, threatening an attack on the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office. It has raised suspicions of a possible foreign plot.
Notably, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had also received a death threat via email from an unknown account last week. The sender threatened to blow up Shinde’s car with a bomb. In the current incident, a case has been registered and the probe is underway.
Police sources indicated that efforts are underway to trace the origin of the message and verify its authenticity. Given the threat perception, additional security measures have been put in place at the Chief Minister’s Office and other sensitive locations in Mumbai.
Recent Security Threats in Maharashtra
Previously, on February 20, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde received a death threat via email. The email warned of a bomb attack on Shinde’s car, prompting an investigation by the Mumbai Crime Branch and Buldhana police.
On February 21, authorities arrested two individuals—Mangesh Wayal (35) and Abhay Shingane (22)—from Deulgaon Mahi in Buldhana district in connection with the email threat. They were later brought to Mumbai for further questioning.
An FIR was registered at Goregaon Police Station under sections 351(3), 351(4), and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Despite the threat, Shinde continued with his official engagements, including attending the swearing-in ceremony of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta alongside CM Fadnavis and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar.
Security Tightened Across Key Locations
Following the latest threat against CM Fadnavis, Mumbai Police officials have reassured that security has been significantly increased. The authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
