Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed Russia’s readiness to host world leaders, stressing the significance of this date in the modern-day geopolitics. He said, “This day symbolizes the defeat of Nazism. And unfortunately, this topic is currently more relevant than ever. If some countries, particularly major ones, decide to share in the joy of this victory with us and celebrate this day with us, we – and especially President Putin – will be pleased to welcome them in Moscow.”
Xi, Lula Confirm Attendance; Modi and Trump’s Visit Likely
Chinese President Xi Jinping has officially accepted the invitation to attend the event, according to Russia’s Ambassador to China, Igor Morgulov. Xi has also invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend China’s Victory Day celebrations on September 3. The President of Brazil, Lula da Silva, has also agreed to attend. A message from the Brazilian government revealed that Lula thanked the organizers for the invitation and confirmed his desire to be present in Moscow on this date.
Meanwhile, reports from Russian news agency TASS suggest that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is highly likely to visit Moscow for the celebrations. The discussions also include the participation of a ceremonial unit from the Indian Armed Forces, which may arrive in Russia at least a month in advance for rehearsals. If Modi confirms his attendance, this will mark a significant moment for India-Russia relations amidst an evolving global order.
The US President Donald Trump has also been rumored to attend, although confirmation at the official level is still awaited. Peskov clarified that President Putin would be willing to invite Trump if he decides to attend the celebrations.

While speculation surrounds Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s potential attendance, no official confirmation has been made. This event, commemorating the Soviet victory in World War II, holds deep geopolitical significance, reflecting shifting global alliances. If Modi attends, it could indicate India’s evolving strategic calculus in balancing relationships with Russia, China, and the broader West.”
