In a disturbing revelation, Rajasthan’s Ajmer district has once again come under the spotlight for heinous crimes involving blackmail and sexual assault. This echoes a similar scandal from the 1990s, where hundreds of girls were allegedly raped and blackmailed in Ajmer. Recently, a sex racket was uncovered in the nearby Beawar district, sending shockwaves across the nation. Both districts fall under the Ajmer division, raising serious concerns about the safety of women and children in the region.
Adding to the grim situation, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani disclosed that over 200 children, mostly girls, have gone missing from Ajmer. He expressed deep concern over the issue and emphasized the need for stronger security measures, including the establishment of new police checkpoints. The state government has also revealed alarming statistics, stating that 7,339 children went missing in Rajasthan over the past year, with a majority being girls. While many have been recovered and reunited with their families, the numbers remain troubling.

The recent Beawar case mirrors the infamous 1992 Ajmer scandal, where over 100 girls were allegedly raped by a group of Muslim men. In Beawar, a similar modus operandi was used: minor Hindu girls were targeted, lured with mobile phones, and then blackmailed and raped. The accused, including two minors, recorded videos of the assaults to coerce the victims into bringing more girls into the trap. The racket was exposed when one girl stole money from her home to meet the perpetrators’ demands, leading her family to uncover the horrifying truth.
The 1992 Ajmer case involved Farooq Chishti, then president of the Youth Congress, and his associates, who drugged and raped school and college girls at parties. The victims were blackmailed with explicit photos, forcing them to remain silent. Despite some girls bravely coming forward, the case was initially suppressed due to the accused’s political connections. It was only after public outrage and a CID investigation that ‘justice’ was served, with six accused sentenced to life imprisonment in 2024.
