The opposition of the country is hell bent in backing the unconstitutional Waqf Board for the sake of its vote bank politics. Now in a major development, the Chairman of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), Jagdambika Pal has slammed TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee for his controversial ‘Waqf property’ remark that intensified debate against the illegal usurping powers of the Waqf Board.
The recent controversy erupted after TMC MP from Serampore Kalyan Banerjee came out in support of Waqf Board. He had claimed that any piece of land where Muslims offer Namaz would be deemed as Waqf property.
Speaking at a public meeting on 30th of November, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee said, “When you offer Namaz, or whoever offers Namaz anywhere, then that will be treated as Waqf property,” he asserted. He further elaborated that if a group of 20, 15, or even five individuals regularly offered Namaz at a location, it would qualify as Waqf property.
These remarks were made by TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, who is also a member of the Standing Committee on WAQF. According to him, any location where Muslims offer Namaz would automatically be considered a WAQF property. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee has got a track record of playing muslim appeasement politics. In 2021, ahead of the West Bengal Assembly election, Banerjee came into limelight for his derogatory remarks against Goddess Sita and Ram Bhakts. Addressing a political rally, Kalyan Banerjee said, “Sita told Ram that I am thankful Ravana abducted me. If your followers chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ with saffron headgear had kidnapped me, I would have ended up like the Hathras victim from Uttar Pradesh.”
Following TMC MP’s contentious remarks, Jagdambika Pal, the Chairman of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) slammed him. The BJP MP asked Banerjee to keep his views before the JPC and not make any statement outside.
Jagdambika Pal said, “Kalyan Banerjee is a member of JPC (on Waqf Amendment Bill) and he should keep his views before the JPC and not give statements outside. If the government there in West Bengal is bringing a resolution against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, then it is an attack on the parliamentary democracy and the principles of the Constitution”.
