In Delhi, Nursery, Kindergarten (KG), and Class 1 registrations for the 2025-26 academic year are now open. The number of private schools that are taking part in this registration process is 1,741. As per a circular issued by the Department of Education on November 12, 2024, the deadline to submit registration forms is 20 December 2024. The first general admission list will be released on January 17, 2025.
Most of the private schools in Delhi have already outlined the admission criteria, including criteria based on proximity to the school (neighbourhood), distance from the school (highest weightage), and the child’s gender. Further criteria include preference for single girl children, siblings of current students, and children from single-parent families. Minority provisions also include children from Sikh and Christian families and children from economically challenged families or those with physical disabilities.
To complete the registration, parents need to present valid address proof. Aadhar Card/ UID card of either parent and a Ration Card or smart card with the child’s name, domicile certificate of the child or parents, Voter ID (EPIC) of the parents can be submitted to complete the process.
The DoE has further made it mandatory that 25 percent of the seats in private schools be kept aside for children belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Disadvantaged Groups and also for children with disabilities. Admission lists will be prepared separately for these categories.
The DoE has particular age limits for admissions. Children will be at least three years of age for Nursery, four years of age for Kindergarten, and five years of age for Class 1, with an upper age limit of four years for Nursery, five years for KG, and six years for Class 1 as of March 31, 2025.
Parents can contact the school administration for any admission-related questions between January 18 and January 27, 2025, following the release of the initial list on January 17, 2025. This allows parents to ask questions or seek answers if they have any concerns about their child’s admission.
