India has denied visas to a number of Pakistan scrabble players, who wanted to be in New Delhi to participate in the Asia Cup Youth Scrabble Championship, which was held here from November 10-12.
The Indian High Commission in Pakistan did not give any reasons for denying permission to the sportspersons to visit India, reports said.
“Despite submitting applications two months in advance, the Indian High Commission delayed processing, issued some visas too late for players to attend,” Pakistan Scrabble Association (PSA) Director Tariq Perez alleged.
He claimed this also includes players who have previously participated in the tournament and won.
“As reigning World Youth Champions and defending Asian Youth titleholders, Pakistan’s absence is a significant blow,” Perez opined.

Pakistan players had gathered in Lahore expecting visas but would now make their way back to Karachi, the Pakistani official said. They now would focus on other International competitions.
Players born on or after January 1, 2007, can participate in the tournament. Cash prizes and trophies are given to the top 10 players in the Cup and the top 5 players in the Plate Division.
The age category prizes will be given to the top two in the U16, U14, U12, U10, and U8 ages in the Cup division.
Pakistan Cricket Control Board throws tantrum, issues threat of pulling out of ICC events

The previous PCB chief Ramiz Raja had pointed out the dependency of the PCB on the BCCI for its survival, “PCB is funded 50% by the ICC that is funded 90% by the BCCI or in a way, the Indian business houses are running Pakistan cricket. If tomorrow Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi feels that we won’t provide any funding to Pakistan, then this cricket board can collapse.” Raja said.
