What topics can Sunny Deol cover if he is making “Border 2” at all?

Border 2: Actor Sunny Deol, who is currently riding high on the success wave of “Gadar 2,” has revealed that discussions are underway for the much-anticipated sequel to his blockbuster war drama “Border.” This revelation is particularly significant as the sequel idea had been put on hold during his lean phase.

Directed by JP Dutta, the 1997 war drama “Border” is set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The film featured an ensemble cast led by Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, and Akshaye Khanna, among others. With Sunny Deol showing genuine interest in the project, the idea of “Border 2” gains more traction. Here are some historical incidents from the 1971 War that could serve as compelling plotlines for the proposed sequel:

The Battle of Chhamb: The battle started on December 3, 1971, with an attack on Pir Jamal Post. Pakistan Air Force joined the attack the following day. However, India’s 191 Infantry Brigade delayed Pakistan’s ingress. The Indian Air Force entered the battle on December 8, and Pakistan’s plans were thwarted due to strong IAF action and heavy artillery fire.

Shakargarh Bulge: This battle took place between December 4 and 17, 1971, with the famous Battle of Basantar fought between December 15 and 17. Despite Pakistani counterattacks, India’s 3 Grenadiers repelled all waves.

Capture of Hilli: To cut off Bogra from the rest of East Pakistan, the capture of Hilli was pivotal. The battle began on the night of November 22, 1971. Despite the strong defensive position, 202 Mountain Brigade finally captured the northern part of Hilli’s defenses, leading to the fall of Bogra.

Tangail Airdrop: Executed on December 11, 1971, this airborne operation led to the capture of the crucial “Poongli Bridge” on the Jamuna River. This strategic move prevented Pakistani 93 Infantry Brigade from defending Dhaka, ultimately contributing to its capture.

With these historical events as potential inspirations, “Border 2” could continue the legacy of its predecessor in portraying the valor and sacrifices made by the armed forces. Even events from the 1965 battles or the process leading to the collapse of Operation Gibraltar could make for riveting content. All that the film needs is a skilled scriptwriter, as Sunny Deol’s passion and dedication can bring these stories to life on the big screen.

As Sunny Deol embarks on the journey of bringing “Border 2” to fruition, audiences can eagerly anticipate a sequel that not only honors history but also pays homage to the brave souls who fought for their nations. With its potential to showcase more unexplored chapters of the past, “Border 2” could undoubtedly stand out as a captivating and insightful cinematic experience.
