As India flexes its diplomatic muscles with the able conduct of the G20 summit, the delegates were recently invited to the Kashmir segment of the same. Barring the “Naraaz Phufajis” of the international diplomacy, everyone was mesmerized by the display of the dazzling beauty that is Kashmir, both geographically and culturally. However, the inclusion of one delegate from the Indian film industry hit multiple targets with a single tone.

The Telugu star was himself elated on this joyous occasion. To quote him,

“It will sound cliché, but the coolest place to shoot in India is Kashmir. I am a second-generation actor. My dad [Chiranjeevi] has shot extensively in Kashmir.  I shot in this auditorium [SKICC] in 2016. So, visiting Kashmir in summer feels like an achievement for me. This is such a surreal feeling. It has been 95 years of existence of the film industry, [but] it will take them another 95 years to explore Kashmir. It is untapped, it is virgin”. However, he wasn’t done yet, as he went on to say, “Kashmir should remain like this always. We have great forest reserves in India, and tourists should not disturb it”.

One Stone, Many Targets

To be honest, Indian cinema has long been renowned for its vibrant and diverse storytelling, with Bollywood dominating the international spotlight. However, in recent years, there has been a noticeable shift towards multilingual cinema, where films are made in various regional languages, catering to a wider audience across India and beyond. Telugu cinema, in particular, has been leading this resurgence, producing high-quality films that have garnered immense popularity and critical acclaim.

Ram Charan Teja, son of legendary Telugu actor Chiranjeevi, has emerged as one of the most talented and charismatic actors in the industry. With his recent blockbuster film “RRR,” directed by the visionary filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, Ram Charan has showcased his exceptional acting prowess and captivated audiences with his powerful performance. The movie has not only broken box office records but has also received rave reviews from critics, further solidifying Ram Charan’s position as a force to be reckoned with in Indian cinema.

PM Modi’s decision to select Ram Charan Teja as India’s representative at the G20 Summit is a testament to the actor’s rising popularity and his ability to transcend regional boundaries. It is also a recognition of the changing dynamics in the global film industry, where regional cinema is gaining prominence and finding wider acceptance. By choosing a representative from Telugu cinema, the Prime Minister is not only celebrating the talent and achievements of Ram Charan but also showcasing the cultural diversity and artistic excellence that India has to offer. Moreover, given the flip flops experienced with most of the Bollywood superstars, it would be better to give chance to those stars, who actually represent the image of a changing India, and who better than Ram Charan Teja himself?

The selection of Ram Charan Teja over the Bollywood Khans to represent India at the G20 Summit showcases the richness and diversity of Indian cinema. It acknowledges the growing influence of Telugu cinema and its role in the resurgence of multilingual cinema. Ram Charan’s remarkable performance in “RRR” and his rising popularity have earned him this prestigious opportunity. As he takes the stage at the G20 Summit, he not only represents Indian cinema but also embodies the spirit of a dynamic and evolving film industry that celebrates talent from every corner of the country.
