The results for the much-awaited Karnataka legislative assembly elections are out. Parties like BJP, Congress and Janata Dal [Secular] locked horns over the 224 assembly seats, for which elections were conducted on the 10th of May.
Now, as of this very moment, as per the early trends, Congress seems to have a slight edge over the ruling dispensation. The ‘Grand Old Party’ is leading on more than 100 seats, while BJP is leading over just 73 seats, as of the initial count of 212 from 224 seats. This, despite a blitzkrieg of campaigns from people like Himanta Biswa Sarma, Yogi Adityanath and PM Narendra Modi himself.
However, that does not mean good news for Congress either, who are still short of the majority mark. Meanwhile Janata Dal [Secular], the regional game changer, seems to have a slender lead of 24 seats. Going by the early trends, it seems that every party be it be BJP, Congress or JD [S], seems to fall short of clear majority, i.e., 113 seats.
On the other hand, BJP needs to have a serious introspection, though the setback couldn’t have come at a better time. However, the actual trends might be clear only by post afternoon. As of now, the poll officials are anticipating a clear outcome by mid-day.
