JAWAN release date postponed: How is stardom determined? By the number of hits? Possibly. By box office figures? Maybe, but not that much. Stardom is a vague term, but it does have one thing common with warfare: Raw courage. Those who have it, can be called star actors in every true sense of the term. However, going by the way Shahrukh Khan is postponing “Jawan” to a safe date, one does have doubts about the same.

As predicted, “Jawan”, the much talked about PAN India debut of SRK, starring himself, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sunil Grover, Sanya Malhotra amongst a host of other actors, was set to release on 2nd of June. This would be the official Hindi debut of both Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi [though Vijay hit it out of the park with his OTT debut “Farzi”], as well as the director, Atlee Kumar.
However, the current dynamics of the Indian cinema have compelled the makers to JAWAN release date postponed the date to 7 September 2023, close to Janmashtami. This was because the makers didn’t want the packed schedule of June to impact their box office figures, and hence, they wanted a better, rather safer date.

Was “Pathaan” not enough?
But why so? Wasn’t “Pathaan”, the eponymous of ‘King Khan’, a humongous success? Didn’t it enter the 1000 crore club as per the die-hard fans and the SRK friendly media? Well, going by the continuous postponement, it looks almost unlikely, and there’s no COVID 19 to hide behind this time.
To be honest, SRK’s “Pathaan” was far from being even a passable movie, forget it being worthy of a blockbuster. Even if we assume the manipulated figures to be cent per cent correct, it was somewhat due to lack of a proper tussle. Just look to what happened to “Kisi ka Bhai Kisi Ka Jaan”. Only a week into the release, the movie was pummelled by a rather okayish “Ponniyin Selvan 2”, and the film hasn’t been able to even recover its budget. We haven’t begun on the havoc “The Kerala Story” has unleashed at the box office yet.
So, did “Jawan” push itself further due to fear of a proper competition? Possibly, because as of now, in June, things aren’t looking great for the actor. Hollywood, with flicks like “Fast X”, “Spider Man: Across the Spider Verse” more than ready. Besides, films like “Satyaprem ki Katha”, “SPY”, and the eponymous “Adipurush” are more than ready to set the cash registers ringing. Going by the looks of the motion posters, Om Raut’s flick looks all set to live up to the legacy of Prabhu Shri Rama, and not mess up like the first teaser.

Will SRK make it?
So, is SRK scared of a simple clash? That’s unlikely, but given the way he’s shifted the date to a safer 7th September, it looks more likely. If he really believed in his product, he would either chosen a date like 29th June, where SRK would lock horns with Kartik Aaryan, who hasn’t really cemented his position a STAR. Or maybe, if he had actually the guts, he could’ve invaded the iconic slot of 11th August, when 5 films from almost all corners of the Indian film industry would clash, be it Sunny Deol’s “GADAR 2”, Ranbir Kapoor’s “Animal”, Nana Patekar starrer “The Vaccine War”, Rajinikanth starrer “JAILER” and the Chiranjeevi starrer “BHOLAA SHANKAR”.
As such, SRK seems to want a solo release, wherein he has maximum power. However, even then his journey is tougher than imagined. Only two weeks later, Prabhas would flex his muscles in “SALAAR”, a multilingual flick on the lines of the “KGF Universe”, directed by Prashant Neel. Moreover, if the reports turn out to be right, Ajay Devgn might spoil SRK’s party by bringing his much awaited “Maidaan” on the same day. Life is not a cakewalk, and SRK has understood it the hard way.
