A new chatbot has been established in India to assist farmers in increasing their profitability, amidst the growing use of AI tools such as ChatGPT. Because India is a big player in the agriculture industry, this AI chatbot has the potential to revolutionise the industry. Kissan GPT is intended to be user-friendly for farmers across the country, regardless of location or academic level. Kissan GPT, unlike other AI technologies, allows farmers to ask inquiries using a microphone.
The developers hope that this feature will help bridge the information gap between farmers and experts. According to Pratik Desai, the computer scientist who led the project, the chatbot will provide farmers with the knowledge and resources they need to increase their profits.
The interface of Kissan GPT
The initiative has already received positive feedback from farmers who have used it, saying that it has helped them make better decisions about their crops and yields. Kissan GPT, launched on March 15, 2023, is an AI chatbot that focuses on serving the underserved agriculture sector in India. It covers topics such as irrigation, pest control, and crop cultivation. The interface of Kissan GPT is simple, and it supports 10 languages, including Hindi, English, Gujarati, and Marathi, as well as foreign languages like Japanese, Portuguese, and Indonesian.

Farmers can interact with Kissan GPT through their smartphones in their language to get detailed answers to their queries. According to Desai, Kissan GPT will use its algorithm to provide farmers with advice and insights on crop cultivation, pest control, and even soil management by delivering answers from its combined database.
Not just for farmers
The AI chatbot has also been used to demonstrate how Indian squash can earn up to Rs 5 lakhs ($6,103) in profits. The company has stated that the chatbot is not just for farmers, but also for anyone with an interest in agriculture, such as researchers and students.
Desai provided an update on Kissan GPT on March 31 via Twitter, stating that the chatbot is on track to serve 10% of farmer call centres. He added that the platform is looking forward to collaborating with the Indian government and agricultural institutes to improve results.
