Kathua case: Recently, academician cum author Madhu Purnima Kishwar was under fire for her new book. But why? Because she had chose to enter the territory where no one dared to: the truth behind the Kathua case. The case that was devised to name and shame the Hindu community throughout the world, ironically became a catalyst to a transformation unimaginable in the Indian politics.
Revisiting the Kathua case, which occurred 5 years ago, but is still relevant in the current context socially, politically and culturally.
The Kathua case
It was the chilly morning of January 2018, when a minor girl from the Bakarwal community was abducted from near the Rasana village in Kathua. A week later, her body was found in mysterious circumstances. The preliminary investigations hadn’t even begun, when a vicious campaign was launched against the Hindus.
Apparently, on the face of it, the girl was abducted by a police officer and a revenue official, who kept her captive in the Baba Kaliveer Devsthan [deliberately mispronounced as Devisthan], sexually assaulted, and then went on to brutally murder her. Two of the most vocal advocates of this theory were Talib Hussain, an activist close to the ruling faction of PDP, and Deepika Thussu Rajawat, the self-proclaimed lawyer cum social activist, who vowed to deliver her justice.
Based on the conspiracy theory, the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted a preliminary investigation. However, when their findings didn’t fit in the scheme of things of Mehbooba Mufti’s administration, some of the officers were themselves arrested, accused of aiding ‘the culprits’. They were replaced by loyal Kashmiri officers, who would kowtow to the demands of the main conspirators.

Kathua case: The Propaganda
As soon as the local citizens got a whiff of it, especially the dominant Dogra community of Jammu, they launched a massive campaign against the same, demanding a CBI probe into the same. However, the conspirators were a step ahead. They now spread the propaganda that the assault took place in a Hindu temple.
This was due to the self-proclaimed activists, within or outside Bollywood, launching a deliberate campaign to shame and vilify the Hindu community. None of can still forget the way these propagandists insulted us with their so-called placards. We haven’t begun on the way they begged for funds, only to enjoy the spoils for their own expenses.
Justice was a sham, and like the British in the past, the conclusion was pre decided, irrespective of the result or the evidence against it. However, they refused to acknowledge one simple factor, the very factor that they had employed for their own use: social media!
Never forgive, never Forget
Unlike the yesteryears, the oppressed Hindus had social media in their hand. Numerous posts and evidences flooded the internet, each of them shouting “Conspiracy” at the top of the lungs. How much fabricated was this case was evident from the fact, that one of the chief accused, a juvenile himself, was nowhere near Jammu on the day of the incident. He was present in Muzaffarnagar, and reluctantly, the local court had to pronounce him innocent.

The Kathua case exposed every party, left right and center. Even BJP, minor partner to the PDP coalition, was accused of being a mute spectator, and found themselves unable to quell the anger of the masses. This ultimately resulted in their withdrawal of support post the Roshni Act scandal exposure, and the subsequent revocation of the dreaded Article 370, that had the made the lives of the Hindus in Jammu and Kashmir a living hell.
