Country report on Terrorism 2021: Terrorism being the product of Pakistan’s ISI and military, poses the biggest threat to India. Although currently there are many terrorist organisations operating in different parts of the world, the forerunner of terrorism was Al Qaeda which got the patronage of Pakistan.
That is why India took the initiative to counter that. Based on its own interest, each country almost remained silent on Pakistan sponsored terrorism. But with the strong determination of the government of India, things have started to change for good.
Country report on Terrorism
In the Country Report on Terrorism, 2021 of the US Bureau of Counter Terrorism, the government of the US has acknowledged the significance of efforts made by the government of India. The report also suggested a shift in terrorists’ tactics while attacking civilians. They are mostly reliant on IEDs, including an explosives attack using drones in the technical area of Jammu Air Force Station in June 2021.

The Country Report on Terrorism also disclosed the terrorist organisation operating in India. The list comprises Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, ISIS, al-Qa’ida, Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, Hizbul Mujahideen, and Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh.
As India and the US have information sharing agreements, the report validates its success. The report reads, “India responds promptly to US requests for information related to terrorism investigations and makes efforts to mitigate threats in response to US information.”
In 2021, 153 terrorist attacks were reported in Jammu and Kashmir that caused 274 deaths – 45 security personnel, 36 civilians, and 193 terrorists.
Citing the efforts of the Indian government to prevent radicalisation and connect the youth with the mainstream, the Country Report on Terrorism said that the Indian Army runs schools, training courses, recruitment drives, medical camps, and emergency services in Jammu and Kashmir to prevent “radicalization.”

Thank you! But not deserted now
Although the Country Report on Terrorism is a positive gesture toward India and appreciates India’s fight against terrorism, it comes at a time when India has almost neutralised the terrorists. Looking at the current scenario we find that the Article 370 is abrogated, Kashmir is moving towards stability, infiltration is on an all time low and the propagator of terrorism, Pakistan, is witnessing economic downfall.
So, technically what the US is doing is an attempt to bolster its relation with India. It simply tries to woo India so that it can alienate from Russia considering its past record on human values. Otherwise, what is the need for such an acknowledgement during this time?
The reports should have come, with a support, during a time when India needed it most but unfortunately, at that time US’ interests were different. It was busy appeasing Pakistan with the funds despite knowing that Pakistan is using them against india. Therefore, we can conclude that, it is a well presented report but actually it is too late.
