In addition to BBC News Punjabi, the official Twitter accounts of several journalists have also been withheld in the country.
BBC Punjabi Twitter Account Withheld
The central government has also “blocked” at least six YouTube channels promoting pro-Khalistan views, which were run from abroad and presented content in Punjabi. The channels were attempting to create a “crisis” in the border state, according to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
The government had urged YouTube to utilize artificial intelligence and algorithms to automatically detect and block objectionable content on its platform. However, YouTube has struggled to comply with these requests in India due to the enormous volume of content in regional languages on the platform, as their systems are designed to screen content in English only.
This development of BBC Punjabi Twitter Account Withheld comes as part of a massive operation to apprehend fugitive Amritpal Singh, whose supporters previously stormed a police station armed with swords and guns in an attempt to release one of his aides. While Amritpal Singh remains at large, several members of his organization, ‘Waris Punjab De,’ have been arrested as part of the crackdown.
