Hari Ki Pauri Haridwar – Guide

Hari Ki Pauri is one of the most sacred ghats of Haridwar and the only place where all spiritual activities take place. Har ki Pauri is a revered site that is visited by a large number of devotees and visitors to offer their prayers by having a darshan of the holy Ganges. The literal meaning of the word ‘Har Ki Pauri’ is- “Har” means “Lord Shiva”, “Ka means” and “Pauri” means “step”. Lord Vishnu is believed to have visited Brahmakund at Har Ki Pauri.

History of this Temple

The history of Hari Ki Pauri Haridwar, which is one of the most sacred ghats of India, is more than twenty centuries old, the credit for its construction is given to King Vikramaditya. Har Ki Pauri was built in the memory of Bharati, the brother of King Vikramaditya, who meditated here on the banks of the river Ganga.

The exact place where the evening and morning aartis take place is known as ‘Brahmakund’, it is believed that the ‘drops of nectar’ fell at this place. This ghat has also been renovated several times from time to time. The first expansion was done in 1938 by Hargyan Singh Katara, a landowner from Agra, Uttar Pradesh and again in 1986.

Ganga ji’s aarti is performed twice daily from Har Ki Pauri Ghat Haridwar, this Ganga aarti is between 05:30 to 06:30 in the morning and between 06:00 to 07:00 in the evening.

Chilla Wildlife Sanctuary

Chilla Wildlife Sanctuary, situated on the eastern bank of the river Ganges, is spread over an area of ​​249 square kilometers. This wildlife sanctuary was established in 1977 and the sanctuary was merged with Motichur and Rajaji sanctuaries in 1983 to form Rajaji National Park.

Mansa Devi

Mansa Devi Temple is located at a distance of 2.5 kilometers from the main township of Haridwar. Perched atop Bilwa Parvat on the Shivalik Hills, Mansa Devi is one of the most famous temples in North India.

Saptarishi Ashram

Saptarishi Ashram is situated at a distance of about 5 kilometers from Har Ki Pauri. It is one of the most famous ashrams of Haridwar. According to Hindu mythology, the ashram is situated at the place where the seven great sages or Sapta-Rishis, Kashyapa, Vashishtha, Atri, Vishvamitra, Jamadagni, Bharadwaja and Gautama meditated.

By Air- The nearest airport from Hari Ki Pauri Haridwar is Jolly Grant Airport which is at a distance of about 41 km from this temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.

By Train- The nearest railway station from Hari Ki Pauri is Haridwar railway station which is at a distance of 1.5 km from this temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.

By Road- Roads to this temple are well connected with the other cities of the country so you can easily reach this temple by using your own vehicle or by any public buses or taxi from any part of the country.
