Govind Dev ji Mandir Jaipur – Guide

Govind Dev Ji Mandir is a temple dedicated to Lord Krishna popularly known as Govind. It is one of the major Krishna temples in the whole world. Devotees from all over the world come to this temple. It is situated in the heart of Jaipur city. It is located in the Jai Niwas Gardens of the City Palace complex, Jaipur.

History of this Temple

If we talk about the history of Govind Dev ji Mandir Jaipur, Sri Shiva Ram Goswami transferred the holy idols by bullock cart first Radhakund and then to Govindpura village. Then the rulers of Amer provided security to move the holy images. In 1714, the divine images reached Kanaka Vrindavan in the Amer Valley. And finally in 1715 he was taken to Jai Niwas in Amer.

For years the rulers of Amer could not provide protection to the sacred images on their own as they were serving the Mughal court and did not want to attract the wrath of the Mughal emperor. According to local belief, Sawai Jaisingh used to live in Suraj Mahal earlier.

One divine day he dreamed that he should vacate the palace as it was meant for Shri Govind Devji himself. As a result, he left the place and went to Chandra Mahal. And thus, Lord Govind Dev Ji was seated in Suraj Mahal even before the foundation of Jaipur was laid.

Govind Dev ji Mandir Jaipur opens at 5:00 AM in the morning and close at 9:00 PM in the evening.
