Mallika Sarabhai controversy: It is often said by the left-leaning political groups that the India we once lived in is no longer the same. While this is true, the world recognizes that this New India is one that operates on terms that are advantageous to its citizens, rather than those of the western world.
Dr. Jaishankar has been consistently standing up to the western media’s agenda with great courage and tenacity on a daily basis, in order to benefit the nation. India is experiencing a historical export of weapons, and its infrastructure and connectivity are improving like never before. This has resulted in nations from around the world looking at India as a potential manufacturing hub in the future. Even Pakistan, which had a history of trying to bully India, is now crying out to the UN that India is mistreating them. It is clear that the India of today is not the same as what the left-wing cabal desires.
Idea of India
What is the ‘Idea of India’? It is sad to see that on social media and in some ‘nukkad natak’ (street plays) you can often see left-leaning people voicing their discontent with the idea of new India. Unfortunately, time and again country start seeming increasingly intolerant for them and unsafe for minorities. However, the matter of fact remains something very different from the idea being projected by these cabals.
Now Mallika Sarabhai, daughter of a great scientist Vikram Sarabhai, an acclaimed dancer and social activist, expressed her deep disappointment with the current state of the nation. Mallika Sarabhai stated that the ideals of the country are being completely destroyed and that Hindutva is being forced on people in the name of Hinduism. Mallika Sarabhai believes that this is not the true nature of Hinduism, but rather a distorted version of it.
Mallika Sarabhai further added “It is so nice coming to Kolkata and actually seeing (people) of different religions living side by side… which I don’t see in a similar way in Gujarat, in Ahmedabad, where ghettoisation seems to be so complete.”
Mallika Sarabhai asserted that several of her friends had been taken into custody and were currently awaiting trial for merely inquiring about certain matters, presumably alluding to the detentions of certain human rights advocates in recent months.
In response to Mallika Sarabhai remarks, BJP leader Roopa Ganguly stated that Hinduism is not only a religion, but a lifestyle that is closely intertwined with nature. The only difference between Hindutva and Hinduism is the language in which they are expressed. Hindutva is a Hindi word, while Hinduism is an internationally recognized English term.

The tolerant India
On one hand these people are turning out to be derogatory and sarcastic about Hindu deities and on the other hands they come up with hypothetical remarks on Hinduism. And what shocks me more is that they escape to their comfortable world without any counter. At the same time when a girl recites truth that is even written in the holy book, her life comes under the threat and she has to live like a fugitive in her own country.
India is a vibrant and diverse nation. A nation that is home to diverse cultures, languages, religions and beliefs. It is a nation that embraces and celebrates its diversity. The Idea of India is one that is built on the foundation of respect for the individual and for the rule of law. It is a nation that is open to constructive dialogue and one that is tolerant of different views and opinions. It is a nation that strives to build an equitable society, where all citizens have the opportunity to live life with dignity and security.
