India has for centuries illuminated the world with “a ray of optimism” and has historically been acknowledged as the ‘Vishwa Guru.’ However, in the post-colonial era, the potential of the nation as the Vishwa Guru has been seriously discredited, owing to the established leftist ecosystem in its home turf. Evidently, with the change of regime in 2014, the previous notions of despotic imperialist attitudes softened with the renaissance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the helm of power.
Diplomacy and Dialogue: The Modi mantra for peace
The image of India changed on the global front under the leadership of PM Modi as the foreign policy became more ‘pro-active’ post 2014. Recently, the Russian President praised the ‘independent foreign policy’ of India, calling PM Modi a ‘true patriot.’
The statement highlighted the changed perspective of the global leaders towards India. The ‘not an era of war’ vision of PM Modi has been held in high regard by ‘peace-loving western powers’ that have cherished the ‘call for peace through dialogue and diplomacy’ endorsed by India. Evidently, with India formally assuming the G20 Presidency in December 2022, the world now looks towards India with a ‘ray of optimism’ to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has devastated the global economy and adversely affected the supply chain, following the catastrophic aftermaths of the COVID pandemic.
Zelensky calls PM Modi, after previous call of Putin
In line with the long chain of events, Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, claimed on Monday that he spoke over the phone with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that he counted on India’s support for the implementation of his peace plan.
The statement comes at a time when President Putin has recently endorsed the vision of ‘peace talks’ proposed by PM Modi, suggesting an early cessation of the war in Ukraine. The telephonic conversation of President Zelensky, pressed for implementation of the “peace formula” proposed by the Ukrainian president at the G20 Summit in Indonesia last month.

President Zelensky optimism in India also highlights that stature of PM Modi in particular and the fascinating success of the Indian foreign policy, which placed equidistant to both the countries in conflict. That is to say, at a time when most world powers are either aligned with one of the two nations out of Russia and Ukraine, India emerges as the only nation that can effectively facilitate peace due to the country’s neutral stance in the war.
Consequently, even the west has realised that PM Modi is honest with his intentions in advocating for ‘peace through dialogue and diplomacy.’ The veracity of the claim can be corroborated by the statement of Vedant Patel, Principal Deputy Spokesperson, of the US State Department, which once again welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s position on the Ukraine conflict. Why is PM Modi gaining the Centre stage in the conflict?
The global economy is facing serious challenges, with blooming inflation. Thus, at a time when the west is “shivering in the chill of winter,” the significance of natural gas has skyrocketed, and with Russian sanctions in play, the supply chain is getting drastically affected.
