The world is hungry for peace as a major part of the globe is literally looking into the abyss of a possible hunger crisis. World peace has become one of the most sought-after commodities in the international market. People are looking for a strong political leader and PM Modi is the only option for them.
PM Modi invited to be part of truce commission
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador wants PM Modi, Pope Francis and Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General to bring truce into the world. He has proposed a commission comprising these 3 leaders. According to Obrador’s plan, the Commission will present a proposal aimed at ensuring zero conflict for at least next 5 years. Obrador, renowned for introducing welfare schemes, believes that the truce period will reorient governments’ approaches towards human development.
Obrador also asked the media to support his plan when he will present it at the UN. Quote “I will make the proposal in writing, I will present it to the UN. I have been saying it and I hope the media will help us to spread it. Because they do not speak when it is not convenient for them,…”
The Mexican President will put forward this proposal during the annual session of the UN General Assembly. Ukraine, Gaza Strip and Taiwan will dominate the session to be held in September.
Pope Francis holds clout among nearly 2.4 billion people while Guterres being head of United Nations are choices beyond the scope of doubtful scrutiny.

Why PM Modi?
However, the presence of PM Modi in this proposed commission may appear puzzling to many.
There is general hate for politicians all around the world, especially when it comes to solving conflicts. Crises are considered as the breeding grounds for political forces. But PM Modi is different. Case in point, he is the only Global leader who has been approached by both Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin for support.
Another point which goes in favour of PM Modi is that for the last 2 and half years of the Covid crisis, PM Modi led India jumped in when the world needed it most. When the liberal western countries got conservative in preserving their medical infrastructure for the crisis, India not only protected its own citizens but also exported 4 crore masks and 20 lakh medical goggles per month.
India’s messianic status in the post-Covid world order
After fears around Covid deaths subsided, the world needed vaccines. Western countries refused in initial phases, but India came forward to save the developing and underdeveloped world. India’s vaccine maitri was beautifully commemorated by Brazilian President when Bolsonaro invoked Bhagwan Hanuman and Sanjeevani Booti to thank India.

Similarly, in the aftermath of food shortage due to the Ukraine-Russia crisis, it was India’s grains which protected the world from global hunger. No wonder, India was able to force the WTO to change its decades long stands which explicitly favoured western world till then.

P-5 of UNSC have become disruptors of peace
But, India’s clout is only one aspect. The other aspect is the decline of perceived hegemony of western powers and China. Look, ideally, 5 members of the UNSC namely the US, UK, France, Russia and China should have solved any kind of conflict together. But, only the US and UK are largely on the same page.
The US conflict with Russia and China is well known. Talking about France, through their AUKUS, the US and its former master UK are together chasing France out of their sphere of influences. There is now way in the world in which all 5 could be on the same page. They are now doing more harm than they were supposed to stop.
India is the only superpower left. It holds the distinction of having 3 separate clouts, moral, economic and military. It is apt that PM Modi who played a key role in India punching according to its weight is getting laurels.
