Sundar, the son of Suresh Babu and Livi, was raised primarily in Kochi. Working in his father’s recording studio and listening to the radio with his mother sparked his early interest in music.
Sundar preferred playing the tabla and the keyboard during his time in school above studying. His parents eventually gave him the support he needed to follow his aspirations after he was expelled from school after failing his SSLC examinations.
He travelled to Chennai with the intention of pursuing a career in music. He enrolled in the Government Music College but dropped out after feeling defeated.
Madhav and Yadhav, the couple’s two children, were born to Gopi Sundar and Priya. Sundar and Priya divorced, and their case is still pending in court.
Sundar started dating singer Abhaya Hiranmayi when they were living together, and in July 2018 he disclosed that they had been together for nine years. On May 26, 2022, he revealed on social media that he was dating singer Amrutha Suresh. He also posted a photo of the two of them on Instagram.
Career
The 2006 Malayalam musical-drama “Notebook” by Rosshan Andrews served as his debut work as a composer. His career took off after the movie’s success, and he later wrote the music for the Mohanlal-starring Malayalam film “Flash” (2007). With the comedy-thriller “Dhol,” he also made his Bollywood debut that year.
His debut Tamil movie, “Poi Solla Porom,” came out in 2008. The score for the 2010 Malayalam action thriller “Anwar” was written by Gopi Sundar. He won his first Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for the film.
With the 2015 romance drama “Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju,” which earned him yet another Filmfare nomination, Gopi Sundar made his acting debut in Telugu cinema.
The band performs alongside Gopi Sundar at live events and is made up of a rotating collection of singers and musicians. Band Big G was founded by Sundar in 2016 during a live performance in front of a packed audience at Al Nasr Leisureland, Dubai.
He started judging the reality series “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Keralam” on Zee Keralam in 2019.
