Since last year, Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. The organisation, which was formed to take responsibility for the management of Gurdwaras, Sikh places of worship, has now begun raising its voice for Khalistani terrorists and supporting their anti-India cause. They have now stepped in with another shameful decision, which should be seen as a sign that the time has come to pull plug on SGPC.
SGPC installs portrait of a Khalistani in the Museum
In what should be seen as an anti-India move by SGPC, the organisation has stepped in with the decision to install the portrait of slain Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist Balwinder Singh Jatana at the Central Sikh Museum in the Golden Temple complex, in Amritsar.
The decision was taken on Wednesday during the SGPC’s Executive Committee meeting, where it was also decided to display portraits of SGPC junior vice-president Principal Surinder Singh & former SGPC member S. Harinder Singh Ranian.
For those unaware, in 1990, Balwinder Singh gained the limelight for killing government officials involved in the construction of the disputed Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal. The BKI militant later died in 1991 during a police encounter in Punjab.
SGPC gives voice to Khalistanis
SGPC has a strange obsession with the pro-Khalistani’s that were against India. It was only a few weeks ago when the organisation announced that it will be installing posters of Dilawar Singh in the Central Sikh Museum at the Golden Temple Complex.
For those unversed, former Punjab Police officer Dilawar Singh is the assassin of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, the CM who is credited for ending Khalistani militancy.
Twenty-seven years ago, Dilawar Singh, in order to assassinate Beant Singh, had tied a belt of explosives around his waist that led to a blast in the Punjab Civil Secretariat, on the evening of August 31, 1995.
For SGPC, Bhindranwale is a ‘Martyr’
SGPC has gone beyond tolerable when it comes to furthering the Khalistani propaganda. Earlier on June 6, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami was caught up in a controversy, as he called Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who was a Khalistani terrorist, a “martyr”.
This took place on the 38th anniversary of Operation Blue Star. The head of the apex Gurudwara body stated, “We remembered those great martyrs. Also, our extremely respectful 20th century’s Sant Baba Jarnail Singh, Bhindranwale Khalsa, Baba Amreek Singh, and others. Our community will always remember them. We offered them prayers and flowers today for the way they fought against the forces and gained martyrdom. We have gathered here in their memory”.

It was the same day when a number of people protested at the Golden Temple, while carrying posters of Bhindranwale and chanting pro-Khalistan slogans.
The Khalistani movement is on a rise in Punjab and even in foreign countries where a decent number of Sikhs are residing. AAP and other political parties, for the sake of petty politics, too, added fuel to the fire by supporting farmers protest, which was less about farmers’ right but more about the Khalistani propaganda.
SGPC, too, is slowly turning into an anti-India voice supporter. Before it comes to bite the country, the government needs to pull the plug on SGPC and silence every Khalistani voice.
