Sonia Gandhi vs Smriti Irani: The whole episode, scene by scene, uncut

News reports emerging from the spar between BJP and Congress MPs in the Parliament presented a particular version of the story. As expected the story was centered around BJP leaders heckling Sonia Gandhi.  But, facts narrate a totally different story.

Recently, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury made unparliamentary, disdainful, and frankly obscene remarks against President Draupadi Murmu Ji. Later he apologized for it, terming the remarks as a “slip of tongue”. But keeping his record in mind, it is tough to believe that it was the only mistake on his part. In the past, he has used derogatory remarks against PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and even his own party members as well. Naturally, BJP members won’t believe that it was a slip of tongue.

Smriti Irani would not let it pass

Particularly, Smriti Irani, Minister of Women and Child Development was not in a mood to let it go lightly. The comment was outright misogynist and Irani being in charge of Women and Child development Ministry would not tolerate it. She took charge on the floor and castigated Congress Party as a whole and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in particular.

Smriti Irani exposed the hollowness of the narrative that Congress is for women empowerment. In fact, when it came to supporting a woman who broke many glass ceilings by becoming the President of India, Congress’ house leader in the Lok Sabha decided to insult her.

Pinning the blame on Sonia Gandhi, Smriti Irani said, “Sonia Gandhi sanctioned the humiliation of a poor woman who ascends to the highest office in this country”

Sonia Gandhi strangely approached Rama Devi

The voices from both sides were getting louder and so the Speaker decided to adjourn the house. Meanwhile, Sonia Gandhi then walked towards the seat of Rama Devi, a senior member of the BJP and one of the Panel members of Chairpersons of the 17th Lok Sabha.

Our source present in the Parliament has told us that Sonia Gandhi wanted to get the full details of what transpired in the proceedings. She wanted to clear the air around the reasons for her name being dragged into the issue. If you think about it, it is quite bizarre, since the person whose statement is hurting your sentiments can give more clarity about it and no better person than Smriti Irani could answer Sonia’s queries.

Misbehaviour with Smriti Irani

Coincidentally, Smriti Irani’s seat was not far away from that of Rama Devi. She understood that it was about her speech on the floor. Mrs. Irani politely approached Sonia Gandhi and asked, “How can I help you? I took your name.” As soon as these courteous words came out of the Minister’s mouth, Sonia Gandhi got infuriated. It was literally visible in her body language as well. Her eyes were red and her fingers were pointed towards Smriti Irani. She rudely told Smriti Irani to not even dare to talk to her. Quote, “You dare not talk to me”

Everyone present there got the idea that Sonia Gandhi was clearly threatening her. Watching their Madam get angry, Congress MPs also joined her and started making noise on the floor. It is entirely possible that they did it in order to intensify the threat perceived by BJP MPs, particularly Smriti Irani.

Respective members surrounded their leaders

Congress members did try to heckle Smriti Irani. For a moment it felt like they were about to push her but BJP members also sensed it and ran towards the scene in order to protect Irani from the threat.

Both Smriti Irani and Sonia Gandhi were surrounded by their respective party members. The spar between both party members continued for a bit and then all of them marched outside the parliament.

Busting the Lies around the issue

But when the actual news was produced, almost every news channel showed that Smriti Irani had inflicted some kind of atrocity on Sonia Gandhi. As always, the reality is totally different and exactly opposite to what is being claimed by these media portals.

Firstly, they spread the rumour that Smriti Irani misbehaved with Sonia Gandhi on the floor. It is absurd and provably wrong. Sonia Gandhi was the one who went all guns blazing on Smriti Irani.

After that they stated that BJP leaders misbehaved with a 75-year-old Congress matriarch. The facts are that they went there only when they felt that Smriti Irani was in danger. In other words, they were shielding her from any misbehaviour by Congress MPs.

For some reason, Mahua Moitra also started to claim that she was the one who saved Sonia when BJP leaders encircled her. How can she even save someone from a danger that was not even there in the first place? BJP leaders had encircled Smriti Irani in order to protect her. There was no risk to Sonia in that scenario. Though, it may be true that Mahua joined Sonia when she started to march out of parliament.

This is pure, unadulterated truth directly from the Parliament floors. There is no right or wrong in facts. Opinions on that may vary. But, everyone needs to know what actually transpired before reaching to any conclusion.
