Recently, Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to inform about the box office collection of recently released JugJugg Jeeyo. The producer of the JugJugg Jeeyo is Karan Johar who has an almost negligible connection with family values, traditions, and rituals. Thus, the movie failed at the box office as Karan Johar wanted to give a family message through his film. For those unaware, the budget of this film was 85 crores and it managed to earn only 67 crores in almost two weeks.
Yes, JugJugg Jeeyo has earned only Rs 67 crores in India. The 100 crores it has earned is its global collection which couldn’t make the film a hit.
Varun Dhawan blames ‘western’ influence
A bad workman blames his tools and Varun Dhawan blames western influence as JugJugg Jeeyo falls flat at the box-office. If Varun Dhawan’s opinion is something to go by, it is western influence that made cinemagoers to avoid spending on this family-oriented drama. He stated, “We have stopped making big-scale, masala family entertainers because we are too influenced by the West… To begin with, no one knows what type of films will work. From the biggest producers to trade people, no one does and still every week we will come out and give gyaan (knowledge) that this works, that works.”

“Dharma believes in family entertainers, Karan Johar believes in this genre, he has always done it. I believe in this genre, I have always done these films… My career is based on it. Anil Kapoor and Kiara also believe in it. It is not like we are doing it for (the sake of it),” he added.
How ‘cute’ of Varun Dhawan to give such a statement and put the blame on others when he himself is at the fault. His debut film was nothing but a west inspired drama. Even though Varun was playing a student in the film, you can see him doing everything but attending classes.
Content is king and audience is evolved
From here, I would proceed with a message for Varun Dhawan. When you were a kid, the Indian audience loved watching romantic stories and family dramas like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. While you may not have realised it, you are a grown-up, mature, and evolved person; and so is the audience. The audience now doesn’t approve of anything in the name of entertainment. Either you offer great content or be ready to be dumped by the audience. While family oriented films are the need of the hour, Bollywood needs to think out of the box and come up with a unique content.
Moreover, the deep analysis of the recent successful films also makes us realise that the Indian audience either wants motive-driven cinema or the films with larger than life character. It has moved on from the films like Ham sath Sath hain and crave for even better like The Kashmir Files. This is exactly where JugJugg Jeeyo works as a lesson for the Bollywood which need to rectify its mistakes as soon as possible if wants to survive.
