Story of his early career
Kanishk’s father Sanwar Lal Verma and Kanishka’s uncle KC Verma is also an IAS officer and his. Since childhood, he had seen an environment of administrative services in his home and that is why he did not care much about the status or abilities of an IAS officer.
The things that are easily available, often their value is not understood. Kanishak Kataria also had no value for these things and wanted to do some other work when he grew up. Although his father had a big mind that he should also become an IAS, Kanishk never took it seriously. Kanishk did his studies from Kota because his father’s posting was in the adjoining district. He passed class 12 from St Paul’s School there.
After this, after coaching, he gave JEE and got selected with 44th rank for the very first time. He chose IET Bombay and did B.Tech in Computer Science from there. Kanishk was amazing in maths. He had scored 100 marks in both 10th and 12th in Maths and also got All India Rank 01 in Olympiad. After IIT, he got selected and he got selected through placement in a company in South Korea on a very good package.

Kanishk tells in an interview that it is better not to count the first attempt when a day before the exam he comes to know that the form has been filled and has to go for the exam tomorrow.
Actually, his father had filled the form without informing Kanishk and he wanted Kanishk to try it once. They felt that the same old pattern of examination is still there. Well, at the behest of his father, Kanishk went to take the examination and due to being very weak in GS, came to sleep in the examination hall. Obviously, the exam was not to be passed. This thing has come and gone and Kanishka went abroad.
Because of this, he does not count their attempts. When he came back and seriously thought about it, he prepared fiercely after spending one and a half or two years. And not only got selected in the first attempt but also got the first rank.

Study Hours
Kanishak Kataria studied for almost 8 to 10 hours/a day and sometimes 12 to 14 hours/a day for nearly one year before the exam. Besides he started his preparation a year back. In total, he gave more than 2 years to prepare for the exam.

Strategy
Like Kanishk’s GS was very weak. He started reading papers and keeping track of current affairs years before the exam. In Maths which was also optional, he did not face any problems or had to work hard, but in the rest of the subjects from which he had escaped almost after class 11th, he had to choose the same subjects again.
It also teaches us that when we have to achieve something big in life, we have to do what is necessary, leaving behind likes and dislikes. Kanishak Kataria worked hard day and night. Studied for at least eight hours on normal days and 12 to 14 hours before the exam.
Practiced a lot, focused on his mistakes, took the guidance of elders, and stayed away from his girlfriend Sonal whom he credits for his success. By concentrating only on studies, Kanishk has done what he himself had not even dreamed of from his parents.
