The culture of Shoot-and-scoot in politics is very common. In this, politicians often throw accusations at their opponents blindly without even a trace of evidence. Going on this similar line, foreign academicians tried to run smear campaigns to discredit Vikram Sampath and ideologically arm-twist him. But they will soon learn their lessons, after getting a tight slap from the Judiciary.
Audrey Truschke’s false plagiarism charge boomeranged
While hearing the defamation case filed by author Vikram Sampath, the Honourable Delhi High Court ordered the micro-blogging site Twitter to take down five purportedly defamatory tweets of so-called Historian Audrey Truschke. The case pertains to a letter that was written by her along with Dr. Ananya Chakrabarti and Dr. Rohit Chopra. All three of them are US-based academicians and wrote a letter in February to the Royal Historical Society to scrutinize their fellow Vikram Sampath’s works.

Earlier too the court had restrained all the three academicians from further publishing their letter which had accused Sampath of plagiarism. The court in February also directed Twitter to take down five tweets of Audrey Truschke. The defamation case filed by Vikram Sampath will undergo next hearing on July 28. In his plea, he has sought damages of Rs 2 crore and a permanent injunction against Audrey Truschke and others. He has written in his suit that this is an “international smear campaign” because he showed courage to challenge prevailing narrative around historical figure (VD Savarkar).
Distorians are fearing the Real History’s resurgence
History has always been written by the victor with their biases. Indian history has been written like a Mughal hagiography. Many voices have been raised to change it but very little constructive efforts have been taken in this direction. Authors like Vikram Sampath, Sanjeev Sanyal and others have tried to change the perspective of history by giving non-Delhi centric point-of-view.
Now since some real efforts have started in this direction, the status quo profiteers want to stop this immediately. To accomplish this all kinds of nasty and dirty work is going on. For working on this track, these foreign so-called Historians started this hit job on Vikram Sampath for his book on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. They accused him of plagiarism and had written the aforementioned letter.

The unchallenged reign of the leftist historians has finally ended. They had for a long time taught falsehood in the name of history and showed Mughal tyrants as peaceful and art-loving, creative, benevolent and what not. For example, this distorian in the case Audrey Truschke in her book has whitewashed Mughal tyrant Aurangzeb.
The people are more aware today about how these academicians have pushed their agenda. They feel an urgent need for re-writing of history where nationalist freedom fighters are not called extremists and many more changes are incorporated. It is good to see that many experts are taking on themselves to both spread the knowledge about correct history and bash these distorians at the same time.
