Rahul Gandhi, in a speech, revealed that in the recently conducted Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, Congress had approached Mayawati for an alliance before the election, but she declined the offer.
Former Congress president, in explanation for Mayawati’s refusal, added that she feared that BJP would use the central agencies to intimidate her.

Lesson from 2017 UP Election
Gandhi’s revelation is true that BSP supremo refuted the congress’s offer. The combined loss of the Mahagatbhandhan had given a big lesson to the opposition parties in the 2017 UP Assembly election. The coalition formed on the united Muslims’ votes and Hindus’ divided vote on caste had failed in the elections. Breaking all the permutation and combination of caste and religion, BJP won with a thumping majority. Moreover, with an 81% of success rate, BJP won 312 of the contested 384 seats on their own.
In comparison to that Congress had contested 114 seats which concluded with 7 wins, with a 6% of success rate.
The election was a big lesson for regional political parties who were betting on the caste divided Hindu voters along with accumulated Muslim votes. Furthermore, the result showed the mirror to the bigoted regional parties that the disintegration of Hindus in name of caste can no longer have any leverage in the election. You cannot win an election by abusing Hindus and further dividing them to get their votes. The Muslim appeasement and Casteist politics of regional parties were rejected.

Rejection is not due to fear of central agencies but fear of losing its existence
The claim of Rahul Gandhi is contradictory to the claim of his sister that Congress had decided to alone contest the election. Further, Mayawati’s refusal to any alliance with congress can be seen in the backdrop of Congress’s downfall. Regional parties were smart enough to realise that hopping on the sinking Congress ship was suicidal for their existence.
Moreover, in 2020 the 6 elected MLAs of BSP had joined Congress in Rajasthan. The bitterness of breaking its Rajasthan leaders may have refuted the BSP supremo.

Politics of Development
The result of the recently conducted assembly election in 5 states – Goa, Manipur, Punjab, UP and Uttarakhand shows that the people of India no longer trust the Corrupt Congress party. The BJP’s mission of a Congress Mukt Bharat seems to be working on the ground.
Moreover, earlier politics of caste and religion is no longer on the agenda of people. Only, the delivery of governance and development will convert into the votes. BJP’s win in the election was significant. Because every mathematics of caste politics was broken by the BJP, the change in voting pattern reflects the changing mood of the country.

Mayawati’s rejection of Congress’s politics is proof that Congress has lost its credibility in the eyes of the people. The regional parties are aware that the party is a sinking ship, whoever boards it is also bound to sink.
