Education
In 1987-88, Jagi Mangat Panda earned her bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from Osmania University (Hyderabad). Despite her parents’ wishes for her to become a doctor, Ranadhir Singh and Uma Devi, she moved to Mumbai to seek a career in professional modeling.
She won the Miss Stanley Contest during her time at Stanley Junior College and went on to become Miss Andhra Pradesh, laying the groundwork for her modeling career. She worked as an air hostess for Air India for a short time during this period of her career as a full-time model.

Marriage
After meeting her husband Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda in 1992, Jagi Panda’s career path shifted. Jagi Mangat Panda relocated to Odisha after marrying Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda, a four-time MP and current National Vice President of the BJP, and began her long and successful career as an entrepreneur. She graduated from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad with a Management Development Programme in 1996. (IIM-Ahmedabad).

Ortel Communications Ltd., a last-mile cable and internet company with market-leading positions in Odisha with footprints in Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Kolkata, was founded by her in 1996. Odisha Television Ltd (OTV), the first private sector Odia language television channel in Odisha, was launched by her in 1998.
She is still the Founder & Managing Director of Odisha Television Ltd, which has grown to become Odisha’s largest television network under her leadership. OTV, Tarang, Tarang Music, Prarthana, and Alankar, all owned by Odisha Television Ltd., are market leaders in their respective categories today.

The Panda Family
Baijayant “Jay” Panda, his wife Jagi Mangat Panda, and his brother Subhrakant Panda own more than 96 percent of Odisha Television Limited, which broadcasts Odisha TV and a few additional channels.
In Odisha, Jay and Jagi Panda are known as the power couple. The husband is a founding member of Biju Janata Dal, a splinter faction of the old Janata Dal, which was created by Naveen Patnaik, the current Chief Minister. Patnaik and Panda used to be close friends. However, immediately after Patnaik was re-elected as Chief Minister of Odisha, the two drifted apart.

Patnaik questioned Panda’s industrial interests and acted on rumors about Patnaik’s health and well-being that Panda was circulating in order to weaken him and compromise his position. Panda was also easily viewed as cozying up to the Bharatiya Janata Party, exploiting his position as the owner of Odisha’s major news television channel, OTV. Within the party, Jay Panda was quickly sidelined, and he eventually left in May 2018.
He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nine months later and is now the party’s National Vice President and spokesperson. Ortel Communications Limited, a key player in cable television and high-speed broadband service provider industry, is co-founded and managed by Jagi Mangat Panda. She also has diverse business interests in media, telecommunications, the environment, and investing, among others. At the World Economic Forum in 2008, Jagi Mangat Panda received the Young Global Leader award.
