The Press Information Bureau (PIB) is the Government of India’s central organization for disseminating information about government policies, programmes, initiatives, and accomplishments to the print and electronic media. PIB Hindi is the Hindi wing of Press Information Bureau.
PIB Hindi serves as a conduit between the government and the media, as well as providing input to the government on public opinion as expressed in the media. Press releases, press notes, feature pieces, backgrounders, pictures, and a database on the Bureau’s website are some of the ways the PIB disseminates information.
The information is disseminated in English, Hindi, and Urdu, and then translated into additional Indian languages for distribution to about 8,400 newspapers and media organizations across the country.
In addition, PIB Hindi hosts Press Conferences, Press Briefings, and Interviews with Ministers/Secretaries and other senior officials to inform the media about the government’s major policy objectives.
The Bureau also organizes Press Tours to successful project locations so that the media can get a firsthand perspective of the country’s development efforts.

To meet the information demands of regional press and other media, PIB has eight Regional Offices led by Additional Director Generals, as well as 34 Branch Offices and Information Centers.
These Regional and Branch Offices of PIB Hindi issue original press releases, press notes, backgrounders, and other materials whenever an important event is organized by any of the Central Ministries or Public Sector Undertakings in a particular region, in addition to releasing publicity material issued from the Headquarters in local language.
These Offices also take up decisions made by the Central Government that may be of particular interest to a certain region for targeted publicity through long-term information distribution. Information, Education, and Communication (PUBLICITY)Feedback Accreditation, and Special Services are the three primary categories of PIB’s activities.
Accreditation and other services
At the Headquarters, the PIB Hindi along with other services gives credentials to media representatives, including foreign journalists. This makes it easier for them to get information from government sources. 1618 correspondents and 476 cameramen/photographers are among the accredited media. Accreditation has also been awarded to 152 technicians, 84 editors, and 84 media critics. Since 2009, the Bureau has used an entirely online accrediting procedure.
