Imagine what would have happened if the doctor in Dettol’s advertisement, who claims that the product kills germs, finds himself infected with them. Well, that’s how the situation of Congress currently is. The grand-old party is running a campaign called ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon’ in the state of Uttar Pradesh to woo female voters a few days ahead of the assembly elections. However, it has fallen flat on its face as one of the women Congress candidates have resigned from the party over some ‘indecent remarks’ made by a congress leader against Muslim women.
Farah Naeem resigned over demeaning remarks
A Congress candidate from the Shekhupur Assembly seat in Badaun district named Farah Naeem walked out from the party on Thursday. She reportedly alleged that she is quitting the party over indecent remarks made by the party’s district president Onkar Singh.
Accusing Mr Onkar of character assassination, she asserted, “Party district president Onkar Singh said Muslim women should not get a ticket and that I’m a characterless woman.”
While interacting with the media, Ms Naeem claimed, “Women are not safe in the Badaun unit of the party. The work that I have put in for my candidature and fought to get the ticket to contest the elections, Onkar Singh maligned my character to stop it. He said that Muslim women should not be given tickets. Congress needs the votes of every section and community of the society.”

“He did not leave any stone unturned to stop me, he threatened me, he made every attempt to stop my ticket. So if people like Onkar Singh are present in the unit, then I will not contest the elections. I resign from the Congress party as well,” she added.

When asked about the allegations made by Onkar that compelled her to resign from the party, she replied, “There have been talks that I do not have enough money to survive. The second allegation he made is that I am characterless. he made several allegations that have pained and hurt me. But I have decided that since I am a girl, I can fight, I will not break. I will continue to stand everywhere and will support women who are unsafe and are alone.”
The resignation of Farah Naeem comes as a huge shame for the Congress party as the party has been trying to project itself to be at the forefront of ‘promoting women empowerment and safety’. Additionally, its efforts to get women voters on board will also fail as its own woman candidate has come out to raise her voice against the injustice she had to face within Congress.
