After Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his security convoy narrowly averted a major crisis on Wednesday en route Punjab’s Ferozepur – former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has slammed the state administration. Taking to Twitter, Captain Amarinder Singh held back no punches and levied the blame squarely upon current CM Charanjit Singh Channi and asked for his resignation.

Captain Amarinder tweeted, “Complete failure of law and order in Punjab, CM and HM Punjab, in particular. When you cannot provide smooth passage to the Prime Minister of the country and that too just 10km from the Pakistan border, you have no right to stay in office and should quit!”

Captain Amarinder, even when he was a Congress leader has been known to take a nationalistic stance when issues related to national security are concerned. Captain Amarinder didn’t stop his attacks on CM Channi for the grave lapse and further added that it was a shame that Channi’s government could not secure the country’s PM, merely 10 km from Pakistan.

Captain Amarinder said, “If 10km from the Pakistan border you cannot secure the Prime Minister of your country and you cancel the event then it is a damn shame,”

Captain Amarinder Singh also added, “The fact of the matter is that when a Prime Minister is visiting you have to have all the alternatives kept in place. If he comes by air and it is a case of bad weather, you already have a road convoy on standby waiting to take him. Keeping the roads open is the duty of the state government.”

What happened on Wednesday?

As reported by TFI, the PM’s convoy was stuck on a flyover for nearly 20 minutes. The cavalcade was stuck and private cars could be seen approaching, which was a major security breach. The PM also couldn’t attend the rally in Punjab’s Ferozepur, which he was scheduled to address.

Normally during a PM visit, the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and DGP receive the Prime Minister and accompany him. On Wednesday, none of the three was present with PM Modi. Cars reserved for the Chief Secretary and DGP were part of PM’s cavalcade, without the assigned dignitaries in them. Also, only Punjab Police was aware of the cavalcade road travel route.

According to Times Now, Punjab Police leaked the road route to BKU protestors around 2 pm, who strategically placed themselves in the route of the PM, causing the major security breach.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed that a detailed report had been sought, “The Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a detailed report on today’s security breach in Punjab. Such dereliction of security procedure in the Prime Minister’s visit is totally unacceptable and accountability will be fixed.”

Ever since the unfortunate incident happened, several Congress leaders have been rejoicing and thumping their chests as if they had orchestrated the chain of events. The government is investigating the case but Congress has not done itself any favours by exhibiting a thoroughly undiplomatic and unprofessional gesture.
