John Abraham with his Satyameva Jayate 2 trailer has given us enough reasons to NOT GO BACK TO CINEMA HALLS
Share on FacebookShare on X

Driving on the route paved by Akshay Kumar, John Abraham has come up with another supposedly patriotic movie, Satyamev Jayate 2. The first look of the movie promises to be an action packet typical masala movie with item song to softly nudge the audience into cinema halls.

Trailer of Satyamev Jayate 2 released

T-series released the official trailer of John Abraham’s Satyamev Jayate 2 on 25th October 2021. The trailer starts with John Abraham disrespecting Maa Durga’s Mandir by breaking the bells meant for devotees. He is seen beating a supposed villain with the bells simultaneously claiming that he has a 56-inch chest. Later, the trailer proceeds to showcase John in a triple role. The movie revolves around a family headed by a father. Despite their father warning them to be staying united otherwise the world will take their advantage, his twin sons grow up following different ideologies. The difference in the ideological position leads to a public scuffle between both sons involving their father in the process. The movie displays an interplay between different branches of administration serving the country. Farmers, police officers, politicians are all shown having an inter-branch fight between them. Interestingly John Abraham plays all three roles himself. It is speculated that the father of twins is a farmer whose sons grow up to be serving different parts of state administration leading to fights between them.

The dialogues and cinematography of the movie trailer hint towards the lack of originality in the movie.

Bulging muscles, eye-catching action scenes loaded with superhuman strengths, out of context infused patriotism seems to be just compensating for poor story writing. In one scene one of John Abraham’s characters is shown to be stopping the vehicle with his brute physical strength taking out the engine and the camera zooms on his biceps. Similarly, a politician who in real life barely gets a chance to exercise to keep himself fit has been shown shattering a table into two pieces with his bare hand. The movie also makes a bizarre comparison between the bicep muscles and the strength of the chest of the two characters.

Hypersensitive dialogues

Similarly, the dialogues shown in the trailer does not send a soothing signal to the ears. For example, In a scene where John Abraham’s character clarifies his approach towards violence, he says, ‘मेरा फंडा *दांडी* नहीं है, मेरा फंडा डंडा है। गांधीजी की हमेश जय हो, लेकिन भगत सिंह मेरा बंदा है (I don’t believe in Dandi march, I believe in using sticks to punish, Gandhiji is always revered, but Bhagat Singh is the one I follow)’. The dialogue seemed a futile attempt at poetry making and the words feel crammed in sentences to make the ending words rhyme. Dialogues like ‘हर गुनाहगार को ऐसी मौत मारुंगा की अगले जन्म में मां की कोख से क्या, बाप की तोप से निकलने से भी डरेगा’ and ‘जिस दिन हमारा देश हर किस्म के भ्रष्टाचार से आज़ाद होगा, ये आज़ाद उस दिन आज़ादी मनाएगा’ are clearly intended to present a larger-than-life image of the characters involved.

Poor research done on characters

Moreover, the representation of characters has also gone overboard, especially the farmer’s character. The jampacked muscular physique of the farmer looks like a bodybuilder on diet has been given the responsibility of farming for a day. Moreover, the way John Abraham’s character is holding on to plough in the trailer, he looks more like a 5-star climate activist who is visiting a farm for a world climate day conference to later garner funds from multi-billionaires by showing a pic of him/her holding the plough. The Dhoti worn by John while working on the farm is a neat and clean one showing no signs of being in the field for even a minute.

Female characters – A formality

The trailer indicates that Divya Khosla Kumar has been forced into the movie just to complete the quota of a female actor in the movie. Out of the 317-second trailer, merely 15-16 seconds have been given to Divya which represents her side role in the movie. Moreover, a 2-decades long policy of putting an item song in any movie has been followed by making Noora Fatehi dance.

From the trailer, one can easily gauge that the movie is a re-representation of John Abraham’s previous on-screen persona. It has his bulging muscles, superhuman strengths to complement the patriotic flavour. However, all these flavours have been presented by John Abraham in movies like Dhoom, Rocky Handsome and many more. Moreover, Abraham is known to have played serious patriotic roles in the movies like Madras Cafe, Batla House and Parmanu. Keeping John’s history in mind, the Styamev Jayate 2 looks more like John Abraham playing himself on the screen.

Since this particular movie is not yet released so I can’t comment or make any opinion. I have been watching John Abraham’s movies since his early career days, and while John seems have lot of interest and enthusiasm in acting but in the beginning of his career he used to lack showing proper emotions for the scene and eventually he overcome and improved lot and came a long way but eventually now he seems to overact than what is needed for the scene, for the character and if he can properly balance the emotion and not over do the enthusiasm and bring in his true skills, he will succeeds. His best movies where he balanced his emotions and acting are Madras Cafe, Batla House and Parmanu.
