Pakistan PM Imran Khan, while trying to target India to rake up the Kashmir issue at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), was strongly retorted by India’s first secretary Sneha Dubey. However, it is not the first time when Pakistan has been humiliated by India in New York. Earlier, several Indian secretaries had thrashed Pakistan for its communal, divisive and inflammatory speech.
Pakistan, an arsonist: UNGA 2021
In his recent address at UNGA, Imran Khan tried to attack India for its August 5, 2019 decision to abrogate Article 370 of the Indian constitution that further led to the bifurcation of Jammu & Kashmir into two Union territories. He also raked up the issue of the death of pro-Pakistan separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Exercising the right of reply, India’s first secretary Sneha Dubey strongly retorted and said, “We keep hearing that Pakistan is a ‘victim of terrorism’. This is the country which is an arsonist disguising itself as a firefighter.” Slamming Pakistan’s Imran Khan for highlighting the Kashmir issue in his speech, Dubey said, “While such statements deserve our collective contempt and sympathy for the mindset of the person who utters falsehood repeatedly, I am taking the floor to set the record straight.”
She further claimed that Pakistan, where terrorists get a free pass, is a country that nurtures such militancy “in their backyard in the hope that they will harm their neighbours. Our region, and in fact the entire world, has suffered because of their policies. On the other hand, they are trying to cover up sectarian violence in their country as acts of terror.”
First Secretary Mijito took a dig at Imran Khan: UNGA 2020
Pakistan was also thrashed earlier in 2020. India’s First Secretary Mijito Vinito, with his right to reply to Imran Khan’s incessant lies and propaganda, left Pakistan short of corners to dig its face in, owing to the unprecedented offensive which India mounted against the Islamic Republic at the UNGA. Mijito said, “Leader of Pakistan today called for those who incite hate and violence to be outlawed. But, as he went on, we were left wondering, was he referring to himself?”
Taking Pakistan to the cleaners, the Indian secretary said, “The same leader who spewed venom today admitted in 2019 in public in the US that his country still has about 30,000-40,000 terrorists who have been trained by Pakistan and have fought in Afghanistan and in Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This Hall heard incessant rant of someone who had nothing to show for himself, who had no achievements to speak of, and no reasonable suggestion to offer to the world.”
India destroyed Imran Khan’s hateful rhetoric: UNGA 2019
While Imran Khan used the UNGA platform to create animosity among the Indian Muslims, Vidisha Maitra, first secretary of MEA dissected and destroyed Imran Khan’s hateful rhetoric. Maitra remarked that “Imran Khan’s threat of unleashing nuclear devastation qualifies as brinksmanship, not statesmanship”. One of the most interesting points was when she mentioned Lt. Gen A. A. Khan Niazi of the Pakistan army who butchered thousands during the 1971 war and whom Imran Khan ‘Niazi’ is known to be related to. Vidisha also reminded Pakistan of its persecution of minorities and its patronage of terrorists.

Eenam branded Pakistan as Terroristan: UNGA 2017
In 2017, then Pakistani PM Shahid Khakan Abbasi urged the UN to deploy a special envoy in Kashmir. At the same time, he alleged that India was crushing the struggle of the people of Kashmir. Afterwards, under “Right to reply”, Eenam branded Pakistan as Terroristan.
Eenam said, “Pakistan is Terroristan, it runs the cottage industry of terrorism and exporting them to the world. Pakistan should always keep in mind that Kashmir is an integral part of India. It’s shocking that the country that has protected terrorists like Osama bin Laden and Mullah Omar is now calling itself Victim.”

India for the last few consecutive years has been shaming Pakistan at a global level. Sushma Swaraj had once said “If a country does not want to be involved in the fight against terrorism, then we should isolate it from rest of the world. There are such countries in the world for which terrorism has become a hobby, a way of life. Such countries should not have any place in the world community.” This is high time Pakistan realises the cost of harbouring terrorism and does not use UNGA meets for its propaganda.
