No alcohol allowed in Lakshadweep. But liquor-ban in holy-land Mathura is death of democracy

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s landmark decision to ban liquor and meat in Mathura has sparked an outcry among the left-liberal cabal. The liberals are referring to the decision as the ‘death of democracy’. Ironically, the liberals who were defending the liquor ban in Lakshadweep a few months ago are the ones opposing the liquor ban in Mathura.

Earlier this week, the Yogi Adityanath-led UP Government imposed a ban on the sale of liquor and meat in Mathura in a move to mark the religious significance of the holy place. He also suggested that those involved in the liquor and meat trade may move ahead by selling milk to revive the glory of Mathura.

Right after the decision came out in public, Islamist left liberals along with opposition parties jumped on the bandwagon to criticise the Yogi Government.

Opposition Parties and left-liberals charged on UP government

Questioning the government for its decision, Samajwadi Party MLC Sunil Sajan said, “BJP has expertise in doing Hindu-Muslim politics. Why didn’t they take such a decision in the last four years? Those selling meat and liquor in Mathura should also be prioritised in giving employment which seems least expected from the saffron party.”

Attacking the Uttar Pradesh CM, Congress UP Chief Ajay Kumar Lallu asked why the CM did not visit children dying due to viral fever in Mathura. He also said that the CM is having a busy schedule because of photoshoots to take mileage ahead of the 2022 Assembly election.

Leftist media portal The Wire’s journalist Arfa Khanum Sherwani also took to Twitter to criticize the government and tweeted, “The tyranny of the majority! The majority decides what the minorities will eat, wear and how they will live their lives. This cruelty and oppression have become the order of the day. UP CM Yogi Adityanath Bans Meat, Alcohol Sales in Mathura.”

Adding to the row, another Journalist Samiullah Khan, in a shameful attempt to refer to the decision as the ‘death of democracy’, also tweeted, “Muslims are around 18% of Mathura’s population, and Dalits 20%. In other words, at least around 40% of the population there eats meat. There are also meat eaters among other caste groups. How can Yogi attack their right to eat the food of their choice? Such a Cruel Move !”

The same ‘liberals’ were defending the liquor ban in Lakshadweep

Earlier the administration in Lakshadweep had decided to lift the ban on alcohol. Praful Khoda Patel, the Administrator of the Union Territory had given a nod to allow the opening of liquor bars on the island, to promote tourism. The left-liberals and Islamists around the country went up in arms against the opening of liquor stores and portrayed Patel as the ultimate villain of the island.

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal had written a letter to the President alleging that the current administrator of Lakshadweep Praful Patel had taken “authoritarian measures.”  He said that there is apprehension among the people of Lakshadweep the resulted widespread protests “owing to the authoritarian measures taken by the current Administrator Praful Patel.

Hypocrite liberals

As per the 2011 census, the UT has a Muslim population of over 96 per cent. Despite no religious significance of Lakshadweep for the Muslims on the island, liberals wrongly claimed that Patel was trying to undermine the ‘Islamic character’ of Lakshadweep. Defending the liquor ban, the Muslim liberals also claimed that allowing liquor was hurting the religious sentiments of the Islamic majority on the island.

However, when the government stepped up with the decision to ban liquor considering the Hindu sentiment in Mathura, liberals are now singing ‘death of democracy’. In contrast to defending the liquor ban in Lakshadweep, the liberals are crying against the same in Mathura.

A Twitter user Gaurav highlighting the hypocrisy of the liberals tweeted, “Muslims & Liberals were defending ban on alcohol in Lakshadweep but now they are crying about beef meat ban in Mathura. Only their religious sentiments matter but not of Hindus?

Muz|ims & Liberals were defending ban on alcohol in Lakshadweep but now they are crying about beef meat ban in Mathura.

Only their religious sentiments matter but not of Hindus ?

— Hindu (@OutspokenHindu) August 31, 2021

Another Twitter user Ramakrishna Maiya Bijoor also tweeted, “First you support lifting ban on alcohol in Lakshadweep. You cannot have two standards. Lifting ban on alcohol is not correct as Lakshadweep is muslim majority. Banning meat in Mathura is not correct as it affects my food choices. How much hypocrisy?

First you support lifting ban on alcohal in Lakshadweep.

You cannot have two standards.
Lifting ban on alcohal is not correct as Lakshadweep is muslim majority
Banning meat in Mathura is not correct as it effects my food choices.
How much hipocracy?

— Ramakrishna Maiya Bijoor Charkodlu (@bcrmaiya1957) September 1, 2021

However, hypocrisy is one of the reasons why it is difficult to hold the liberals in high regard. The liquor and meat ban in the holy city of Mathura is a valid move and keeps in mind the sensitivities of the Hindu community, for whom Mathura is a holy site. Lakshadweep, on the other hand, is not a holy site in Islam as such, and yet Islamoleftists leave no stone unturned to bat for Muslim sensitivities, no matter how unreasonable.
