As India ramps up its effort to provide economic and political protection to the Afghan nationals trapped inside the war-torn country, the liberal narrative of the Narendra Modi government being an intolerant one is falling apart like a product made in China. Oops….
Continuing its legacy of being anti-India and specifically anti-Modi, New York Times recently tried to slander Modi Government on the e-visa issued to Afghan nationals.
The Indian government on 17 August 2021 decided to issue E-visas to Afghan nationals who want to come to India. The visa is called “e-Emergency X-Misc Visa” and its validity is of six months. The applications are online and will be processed in Delhi due to the closing of all Indian missions in Afghanistan. A tweet from a home ministry spokesperson said “The ministry of home affairs reviews visa provisions in view of the current situation in Afghanistan. A new category of electronic visa called ‘e-Emergency X-Misc Visa’ introduced to fast-track visa applications for entry into India.”

The New York Times which frequently publishes the views of radical ‘liberals’ like Rana Ayyub decided to spread misinformation regarding X-Misc Visa. It published an article with the title saying- ‘India says it will prioritize Hindus and Sikhs for emergency visas to Afghans.’
It mentioned a tweet of External affairs minister Dr S. Jaishankar in which he had assured Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh and Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri about the safety of Hindu and Sikh community and then went on to conclude that Muslims won’t be prioritized while giving the visa.

However, it was just a matter of time before this propaganda news piece was busted by Kanchan Gupta, a senior advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. He posted a screenshot of the X-Misc Visa application which had no column for any religion. Posting the screenshot, he wrote on twitter “Once again @nytimes found grossly lying through its teeth. #India has promptly introduced an emergency e-visa for #Afghanistan nationals. No religious criteria mentioned. Apart from Hindus and Sikhs, India has said it stands by and will offer all assistance to Afghan friends”

With readerships going down due to excessive hypocritical liberalism, New York Times is trying to garner traffic through fake news and propaganda. Recently it had posted a job description in which being anti-Modi was the prerequisite for the applicants. At the time when India is looking to help the Afghan people, this deliberate attempt to divert attention by New York Times is anti-human.
