While the whole nation was celebrating the victory of the Indian Hockey team in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Congress IT cell was busy spreading fake news about Indian Men’s Hockey Team Captain, Manpreet Singh. However, Manpreet Singh has lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to change the name of the Khel Ratna Award. With his statement appreciating Modi, Manpreet has countered Congress, for spreading fake news in his name.
Lauding PM Modi’s move to rename Khel Ratna Award to ‘Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, Manpreet said, “It is a very big thing for hockey, Khel Ratna Award has been renamed after Major Dhyan Chand. It is a good thing for hockey, both men’s and women’s teams performed well at the Olympics and after that, the government decided to rename the Khel Ratna Award.”
As reported by TFI, a Facebook handle named “With RG”, a few days back, posted – “Manpreet Singh, Captain of Hockey Team refused to accept Award Money from the Modi Government until 3-Black Agriculture Laws are cancelled.” Interestingly, the page owner(s) provided an ‘official’ disclaimer that they are not an official page and are run only by the fans of Rahul Gandhi.
However, no media reports claimed the denial of any award by Manpreet Singh over the hockey team’s performance in the Olympics. A deep dive into the matter also revealed that the Central government has not yet announced any awards for the India Men’s hockey team so far.
In addition to that, Manpreet took resort to Twitter, to thank PM Modi for the encouragement and tweeted, “Thank you so much sir for your encouragement, never-ending support for me and the team – this is not the last, we will work harder to bring more Laurel for the nation! Jai Hind.”
While talking to ANI, Manpreet praised Prime Minister Modi for his decision, regarding renaming the Rajeev Gandhi Khel Ratna award as the Major Dhyan Chand award. With such a statement, the hockey player has not only ruined the hope of Congress to gain some controversy around the farm bill but also, had his revenge for spreading fake news in his name.
However, Congress seems displeased with Manpreet’s support for renaming the Khel Ratna Award. National Spokesperson of the Congress party, Dr Shama Mohammed tweeted, “Is our Men’s hockey Captain ignorant of the fact that it was Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award & not just “Khel Ratna” Award!”
Congress sympathizer Sumanth Raman also took to Twitter to show displeasure and tweeted, “Why is he commenting on a controversial issue?”
If we consider Manpreet Singh’s activities on social media, it is easy to conclude that he has no political agenda, whatsoever. His Twitter account is full of retweets of congratulatory posts for the victory of the National Hockey team. Congress IT cell is trying with all its “might” to let down these Patriotic Sons of Soil against the nation. However, it all blows up in their own face.
