The more the Congress party tries to protest against the government, the more it all blows up in its face. A few days ago, Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account was suspended for violating the norms of Twitter. This led a few Congress leaders to protest against Twitter India as well as the Modi government. In the aftermath of the protest, Congress’ official Twitter account along with the accounts of a few other party leaders including Randeep Singh Surjewala, Ajay Maken, Sushmita Dev and Manickam Tagore got temporarily blocked by Twitter.
Earlier as reported by TFI, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had shared a picture on Twitter, of his meeting with the family of a nine-year-old Dalit girl, who died after an alleged sexual assault. The post later showed as ‘no longer available on the microblogging website for violating its rules. A click on the tweet led to a message that read, “This tweet violated the Twitter rules.”
National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Chief Priyank Kanoongo took cognisance of Rahul’s tweet and pressed Twitter to take suitable action. Afterwards, Rahul Gandhi was locked out of Twitter.

Twitter in a statement asserted that it enforces its rules judiciously and impartially. A Twitter spokesperson said, “(Twitter)…may continue to do so in line with our range of enforcement options. Certain types of private information carry higher risks than others, and our aim is always to protect individuals’ privacy and safety. We strongly encourage everyone on the service to familiarise themselves with the Twitter Rules and report anything they believe is in violation.”
The day after Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account was temporarily locked, the Congress party started protesting against Twitter India and dared the micro-blogging platform to lock its account. Soon, Congress leaders such as Randeep Singh Surjewala, AICC general secretary Ajay Maken, Assam in-charge and former Union minister Jitendra Singh and Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev shared the same photograph.
However, this protest by the Congress leaders led to their accounts also being temporarily locked. The opposition party posted on Twitter which read, “@TwitterIndia lock our accounts, we challenge you. Nothing will stop us from fighting for justice & exposing the truth,” along with hashtag #मैं_भी_Rahul or I am Rahul.

Now the microblogging site has also ‘locked’ the party’s official Twitter account. Congress took to Facebook and Instagram to share screenshot of its Twitter account that flashed a message: “Your account has been locked”. The message on the screenshot read, “We determine that this account violated the Twitter Rules. Specifically, for violating our rules against posting private information. You may not publish or post other people’s private information without their express authorization and permission.”
Congress, yet again, lost track and started blaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Twitter account’s suspension. In another post on Instagram, the Congress said, “Modi Ji, just how afraid are you? Reminder: The Congress party fought for our nation’s independence, equipped only with truth, non-violence & the will of the people. We won then, we’ll win again.” Earlier, Congress had also accused Twitter India of working at the behest of the ruling BJP government.
All India Congress Committee secretary Pranav Jha also took to Twitter to attack the Prime Minister, “Doesn’t Modi Ji understand that we @INCindian’s have a legacy of fighting even from behind the locks of kaala paani? He thinks the virtual locks of Twitter will deter us from fighting for India??”

Congress leaders while trying to protest in support of Rahul Gandhi eventually turned the scenario worse. However, it is quite visible that the party lacks the idea of protesting ethically and thus, ends up making a joke out of themselves.
