After BJP lost the West Bengal assembly polls, the turncoats who had joined the party, hoping to get a slice of power have started to shift back to TMC in hordes. On Tuesday, around 500 people in Hooghly’s Khanakul returned to Mamata’s party at a ceremony attended by local MP Aparupa Poddar.
However, what stood out was the fact that six of the returnees, who had switched to the BJP camp after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections were seen shaving their heads off. According to news reports, the six turncoats claimed to be ‘atoning for their sins’ but it doesn’t take much to figure out that Mamata was trying to send a message to BJP and the turncoats planning to come back to TMC.
A few days ago, as many as 300 TMC turned BJP supporters, who were on hunger strike in front of a TMC office in Birbhum demanding to be taken back into the party fold, were finally reinducted after being sprinkled with ‘Gangajal’ “to cleanse their polluted minds”.
“BJP is a communal party. They have injected their poisonous thoughts into their minds and spoiled their mental peace. So shantir jal (holy water) was sprinkled on them to rid them of all ashanti (evils). It was not meant for their purification, rather purification of their minds that were polluted by BJP.” one of the TMC leaders said.
Reported by TFI, the turncoats have been facing stiff resistance from the TMC brass. In Howrah district, supporters of state minister Arup Roy had put up posters at various places expressing their opposition to the inclusion of Rajib Banerjee. In Hooghly district, TMC workers were campaigning to stop the re-entry of former Uttarpara MLA Prabir Ghoshal who lost the election on a BJP ticket. Many anti-Ghoshal posters have come up in recent days in Hooghly’s Konnagar area.
“The opposition against turncoats is not a universal phenomenon. We have received news of resistance in some places. However, Mukul Roy’s case was different. Mamata Banerjee personally decided to take back Mukul. We did not adopt any general policy for these leaders…,” TMC MP Saugata Roy was quoted as saying.
West Bengal ruled by Mamata’s TMC appears to be a big cult that is heavy on odd rituals to accept its former party workers. Moreover, the exodus of workers from BJP to TMC could be attributed to the mass slaughtering drive that the state CM and her goons have undertaken against the BJP unit workers.
After the assembly election results were announced on May 2, dozens of BJP workers have been murdered, bombed, lynched and raped as the Supreme Court and High Court judges mysteriously recuse themselves from hearing cases against the Mamata government.
