On Monday, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan shared on Twitter a blogpost by one Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi, who is a head and neck cancer surgeon and an oral cancer specialist at the Tata Memorial Centre. The blog by Dr. Chaturvedi took aim at medical journal The Lancet for its shoddy hit job against the Modi government in a recent editorial. The blogpost by Pankaj Chaturvedi happens to have a kitten as a thumbnail. That was reason enough for liberals and BJP-baiters to conclude that the entire rebuttal to The Lancet by the Cancer specialist was unworthy of being read and was without any merit.
Sharing the blog on Twitter, Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan had said, “A fair rebuttal to the imbalanced editorial in The Lancet titled ‘India’s Covid-19 emergency’ published on May 8th. While the Covid crisis did assume alarming proportions in India, it was indeed important to remain politically unbiased for a reputed journal.” Yet, liberals were quick to conclude that the blogpost shared by the Health Minister was a random article which did not deserve any reading on their part. Hence, they put on explicit display a rather horrendous show of their foolishness.

Medical journal The Lancet, perhaps plagued with an inherent sense of Western supremacism and of course, a colonial hangover, decided to recently thrash the Narendra Modi-led BJP government of India for its handling of the pandemic, particularly during the now-receding second wave which devastated the length and breadth of the nation. Importantly, The Lancet is a medical journal. In its recent editorial, however, Lancet seems to have abandoned any scientific temperament for the sake of vilifying the Modi government. For its spectacular performance in doing so, the journal has earned laurels by liberals around the world.
As such, when the Health Minister shared a blogpost which happened to be rather unheard of, and had the picture of a kitten as the thumbnail, liberals concluded that the blog was a desperate attempt by the Modi government to defend itself. Had they made the effort of going through the blog, they would realise that the kitten thumbnail in no way can become a premise of judging the quality of Dr Chaturvedi’s fact-based assertions and subsequent takedown of The Lancet.
FYI, @drharshvardhan (seen here fighting with Lancet) continues to head @WHO 's executive board.@DrTedros https://t.co/BsaCCOp9uq

Lancet has decided to wrap up their business after reading Pankaj Chaturvedi’s blogpost rebuttal with a sad cat thumbnail. Serves you right for trying to science Lancet! https://t.co/vxPm3rKnk9

Close to nobody mounting an attack on the blog for having a kitten as a thumbnail has actually read what Dr Chaturvedi has to say. Had they done so, they would have realised that ‘India’s case fatality ratio – the number of deaths divided by the number of confirmed cases is 1.1%, which is less than that of the US, France, Italy and Germany! India’s Covid-19 recovery rate is amongst the highest in the world.’
Yet, reading, informing and educating oneself are alien concepts to liberals. They are rather happy judging a book by its cover, which in this case happens to be a kitten.
