In what has come as worrying news, according to a report by Jagran, Rohingya Muslims who have been made to leave the National Capital Region are now setting base in Haryana’s Mewat district, particularly in Nuh village. These illegal immigrants, which are staying in India unlawfully and who continue to pose a grave national security threat are reportedly being given shelter by the local Muslim community of Nuh village in Haryana’s Mewat. The village of Nuh is infamous for being a hub of organised crime activities including cattle smuggling, sheltering illegal immigrants and attacking police personnel for carrying out their duties.
Jagran has reported the Haryana government admitted that close to 600-700 Rohingya families are currently settled in the state. An estimated two thousand Rohingyas are said to be living in Mewat district alone. Such figures of the Haryana government, however, are facing opposition from many quarters, particularly the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which is alleging that Haryana currently has lakhs of Rohingyas settled illegally across the state, posing an unprecedented national security threat.
The village of Nuh, by the way, is a Muslim-dominated area. The national spokesperson of the VHP, Vinod Bansal claimed that the number of Rohingyas residing illegally in Haryana are in the lakhs. Most of the Rohingyas living in Haryana are reportedly settled in Mewat, Faridabad, Gurugram, Palwal and Yamunanagar districts. Other districts in the state also have Rohingya Muslims, however, it has become difficult to trace them since most of them have forged IDs like Aadhar card, Ration card and voter ID card.
Only recently, it was revealed by another Jagran report that Rohingyas are now using Punjab as a new transit route to Pakistan due to fears of detention in Jammu & Kashmir. This has raised a law-and-order scare in Punjab, causing a major worry for security and intelligence agencies, who have been asked to monitor the situation closely and send regular reports on the fluid situation.
The question now is, in face of a massive security threat, what is the BJP-led Khattar government doing to deal with the illegal Rohingya Muslims who have made their way into Haryana? According to the Jagran report, the Haryana government is planning to expel the Rohingyas settled within the state. The government plans to do so by examining their documents, which is a time taking process. In the meantime, how the Khattar-led government plans to alleviate the security threat posed by such illegal infiltrators is not known.
