The Indian National Congress (INC), as reported by TFI already, believes that the Modi government has been caught on the backfoot for the very first time in the past six years due to the ongoing farmers’ protests. This, even though the Centre has made it clear to the farmers’ unions that there is no question of repealing or taking back the pathbreaking agricultural reforms passed by the nation’s parliament in September last year. Now, after perhaps having taken inspiration from the rioting and violence at Washington DC on 6 January by alleged Trump supporters, the Grand Old Party has decided to gherao all state Raj Bhawans on 15 January.
This comes in protest of the Centre’s firm stand of not repealing the three revolutionary farm laws. It must be remembered that US’ Capitol Hill too was surrounded by a mob of violent protestors before they broke into the country’s seat of the Congress. Now, with the Congress party announcing a similar protest in all states of the country, one cannot help but wonder if there are some ulterior and nefarious plans which the Gandhi-controlled political front wants to effectuate.
While addressing a press conference, Congress’ General Secretary Randeep Surjewala alleged that the government is playing the games of meetings instead of repealing “black laws”.”Why is the government not fulfilling its duties towards people? The government is sold out to a few capitalists. The Congress party has decided to celebrate ”Kisan Adhikar Diwas” on January 15, while holding protests and demonstrations at district headquarters. We will also organise rallies and after the rallies, we will march towards governor houses across the country. Now, the time has come to listen to farmers’ voices,” Surjewala was quoted as saying.
The Congress is also planning for a social media blitzkrieg on January 15 in support of the protesting farmers under #SpeakUpForFarmers. Rahul Gandhi on Friday had tweeted in Hindi, “Peaceful protest is a part of democracy, our farmer brothers and sisters who are protesting are getting support from the nation, you also raise your voice and join your voice with them so that the farm laws are scrapped.”
शांतिपूर्ण आंदोलन लोकतंत्र का एक अभिन्न हिस्सा होता है। हमारे किसान बहन-भाई जो आंदोलन कर रहे हैं, उसे देश भर से समर्थन मिल रहा है।

Of course, the mob violence on the streets of Washington DC was also claimed to be a peaceful demonstration initially. We all know how that assertion went down. Congress would be well advised to not get over themselves in their lust to take on the Modi government. The Gandhis, meanwhile, should focus on toeing Captain Amarinder Singh’s line, who is now increasingly in favour of the farmers ending their protests.
