‘Religion is the opium of the masses’ is a statement which communists and others have grown up listening to alike. A prerequisite to being a Communist is ideally a sense of aversion to spirituality, religion and God. Essentially, a Communist must be an atheist. However, a rather shocking development has come to light from the Left-infested state of Kerala, where a CPI(M) Councillor has gone about threatening people to chant his name instead of God’s. The Communist leader further went claiming that he would simply not work for those who did not vote for him in the recent local body polls in Kerala.
According to the man, whose name is said to be Hare Krishna Kumar, people should be grateful to the Communist governments and regimes when they drink water from the pipelines fitted by them.”I want to tell you one thing. When you are drinking water from the pipes fitted by the Communists, drink it with gratitude. You must learn to chant ‘Hare Krishna Kumar’ (his own name) instead of ‘Hare Ram Hare Ram.’ I will not be the Councillor of the entire panchayat. I will work only for those who voted for me,” CPI(M) leader Hare Krishna Kumar said in Haripad Municipality of Alappuzha District in Kerala.

The Left government of Kerala is getting increasingly jittery at the pace at which the BJP is aggressively working towards expansion in Southern India. Although the CPI(M) led ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala on Wednesday registered a significant victory in the local body polls, in many gram panchayats and municipalities, the BJP largely cut Congress votes, resulting in the Grand Old Party registering one of its worst performances in the last few years. Evidently, there was a substantial increase in BJP’s vote share and the number of seats.
The BJP is thus working steadily to emerge as the principal challenger to the CPI(M) in Kerala. It has not been given a miss by the Communists that where the BJP once emerges as the principal opposition party, winning the state is not a very distant possibility. As such, they are now perhaps occupying themselves in threatening the voters, by according themselves god-like status, so that the Hindutva-backed politics of the saffron party does not push the Left’s political fortunes into the grave in the near future.
Meanwhile, action must be initiated against the ‘self-proclaimed’ God cum Communist Hare Krishna Kumar for threatening voters and declaring that he will not work for those who did not vote for him. Such statements reek of a fascist mindset of the CPI(M) and must be culled immediately.
