Speaking at the 8th edition of TNIE’s ThinkEdu Conclave that was held earlier this month in Chennai, Rajya Sabha MP, Subramanian Swamy has again hit out at Shashi Tharoor over the Sunanda Pushkar case. While calling Tharoor a “so-called intellectual”, the former Union Minister warned the anchor and said, “You stay away and keep distance from @ShashiTharoor as his record is not good as far as women are concerned.”

Swamy’s remarks have obviously come in reference to the Sunanda Pushkar case. In the year 2016, indications of foul play in Sunanda Pushkar’s death had emerged for the first time. The then Delhi Police Commissioner Bassi had hinted that Sunanda Pushkar might have been poisoned. He had further stated that the FBI investigations had given certain leads that would be further investigated by the Police.
On his part, Subramanian Swamy has always been highly active in connection with this case. He and leading journalist Arnab Goswami had already pointed out that everything was not right in the Sunanda Pushkar murder case. Moreover, Subramanian Swamy had always been quite vocal about demanding fair enquiry in the case. He was vocal in demanding an independent probe in the matter and even approached the High Court and the Supreme Court pleading for a CBI-monitored SIT probe into the matter.
Even towards the fag end of 2018, Subramanian Swamy had even claimed that if the internal investigation of Delhi Police was “brought on record”, then the Congress leader “may be charged with murder instead of just assisting (in the) suicide”.
Swamy seemed to have got vindicated months later when the Delhi Police urged a city court to prosecute Shashi Tharoor for abetment to suicide or “in an alternative” on a murder charge in the case involving the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar in 2014. The investigation agency prayed before the special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar, “Please frame sections 498-A (husband or his relative subjecting a woman to cruelty), 306 (abetment of suicide) or in alternative 302 (murder) IPC against the accused (Shashi Tharoor).”
While the English-speaking Lutyens’ elites have always maintained that Tharoor must not be made to go through the due process of law, no matter how suspicious the circumstances of Sunanda Pushkar’s death may be, Rajya Sabha MP, Subramanian Swamy’s tireless efforts have paid off well when it comes to ensuring justice to the deceased.
